Just got home from having beers with Joe McCain, the Senator's brother. Great guy, real down to earth and funny, with a very nice wife. They got married on the day Clinton was impeached. We had Dos Equis.

    Ironic.
    (The wedding thing.)
What did you guys talk about?

By Markus on Thursday, February 10, 2000 - 12:19 am:

A little about his brother, naturally. I worked four years in the House of Reps, most of that time for a Congressman who was a POW in Vietnam for 6 1/2 years, so I knew his brother professionally in passing.

I talked about my time in Bosnia, and she talked about growing up overseas. I said that Forbes would have to drop after his humiliating third-place finish in Delaware, a state McCain's never been to, and was informed that he had already in fact dropped out. Joe was still upset because some stranger had idly said his brother was lying some hours before. I gave her my card, so she can email the names and last known address of some Yugoslavs she knew before the war; I offered to make some calls to find out if anyone I knew in Sarajevo could ascertain their fate.

He practiced his Spanish with the busboy, and constantly misplaced phone numbers, his cards, the cell phone, etc. He's very gregarious. Fun guy.

Other than that, just general small talk.

    Sounds fun.
God, I'm exhausted. Nothing I say is very thoughtful tonight.
