He said to Edwards, "You've got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate. Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of the Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight." Seems that Cheney has a faulty memory. I don't blame Edwards for missing one Cheney distortion - there were so many. He did nail him on that phony "Kerry voted against weapons systems" meme they trot out, when he pointed out that Cheney as Bush I's Secretary of Defense cut all the programs he was trying to blame Kerry with cutting. Cheney also brought out the big ol' "You're denigrating our troops" brush from their slime bucket, but I think that's backfiring on them. It's becoming increasingly more evident everytime they say it that it's empty campaign rhetoric. |

When Cheney dug into Edwards for not showing up in the Senate he mentioned, "Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session." He then claimed that he never met Edwards until the debate, implying Edwards never showed up. Guess what? Cheney has presided over the Senate TWICE in the last four years. More? Edwards has done it twice too! (Senators rotate in that duty when the Senate president doesn't show...) link |
