wino seems like such a dated term, but what else
can i call this guy. it was two guys; they were
sitting by the side of an old house in downtown
fort worth--one where a lot of homeless guys hang
out. i passed by, and one of them said "hey, where
are you going!" i stopped. the same guy said "i
haven't seen you in a while!" it seemed like we
had met before, but i couldn't place him. earlier,
when i had passed by the same spot, he was asleep
    behind a rectangular brick planter.

so now there was another guy with him. they had a
vladimir and estragon vibe to them (pretentious
samuel beckett reference) one was outgoing (the
one who said he knew me) and the other sort of
    shy.

the shy one held up a bottle of cheap zinfandel
and asked if i had a corkscrew. as it happened, i
did. i opened the bottle for him, said "have a
    good time", and left.

i regret not staying. i should have. i am
practically a street person. i'm sure some people
    think i am.

what is it that separates you from a street person?
your apartment? having a job? carrying a bottle
    opener on you? what else?

you are right. i become more of an ass and more stupid every
year. it has to with the fact that i live such an isolated life. i go
for long periods of time without talking to other people. and
when i do i become confused. it makes me selfish, insensitive
and sometimes rude (if i happen to interact with someone long
enough). i have actively been trying to change this. i need
more people to tell me i'm an ass. here, at least i have one.

too bad nate isn't here to give me a "fuck you, you ass."

Were I not about to travel I would pop over and say it to your
    face.

How about in a couple of weeks?

By droopy on Friday, June 26, 2015 - 12:55 am:

i am scheduled to be in an old farmhouse this
weekend. who knows what will happen in a couple of
    weeks.

By sarah on Monday, June 29, 2015 - 11:25 am:

you're the least of the asses that's ever stayed
here, including me, with a decade of posts
    allowing everyone to witness it.

you go to Oak Hill quite often? i could spit and
    hit the Y.

some of us tend to remember our own assery--in the
    long term--than that of others.

when i'm at the old farm house, i usually just
stay there and enjoy the quiet. our land is
adjacent to the austin zoo. (it's slowly being
taken over by land developers and they are
threatening to put a highway through it, so we'll
probably lose it in my lifetime.) since i wrecked
my last car years ago, i usually hitch a ride down
there; so i don't have much of a way to drive
around the austin area. though sometimes i'll get
over to bee cave or maybe to driftwood for a
dinner at the winery there (trattoria lisina?).
this usually happens if my sister is up from new
    braunfels.

i'm not hip to the expression "spit and hit the
    y."

By sarah on Friday, July 3, 2015 - 10:25 am:

the y is where hwys 290 and 71 go their separate
ways, driving west from Austin in Oak Hill on your
way to the zoo and Dripping Springs, etc.

we frequent the zoo. it takes us about 15-20
minutes to get there. the land in that area is
gorgeous and the view driving along Rawhide Trail
into the zoo parking lot is stunning. i've always
wished i could own land in the hill country (and
the big island). i bet your family's property is
    a great retreat.

i was there with my little back in May, and i
noticed the housing development on the right side
of the road, a little ways past where you turn
right at the country store onto Circle Drive. i
can't blame anyone for wanting to build on the
land out there, but it is pretty ugly compared to
the old ranch style homes scattered in the
    surrounding area.

with the city growing so fast, and commuting
inside the city so dreadful (compared to only 5-7
years ago), places as far outside the city as
Cedar Park and Oak Hill and even Marble Falls are
    becoming more like outer suburbs.

    assery.

By droopy on Saturday, July 4, 2015 - 01:43 am:

it's peaceful, though rugged. one time, i woke up
in the morning with a scorpion on my foot. this
time around, the katydids were so loud it was like
    being in a factory.

we had ourselves designated a wildlife protected
(?) area a while back. we are supposed be one of
the last safe nesting areas for the yellow-
throated warbler. i don't know how long that will
    protect us.

You could get the EPA to help you to preserve the land.

But, that could prove to be a disaster.
