1) the first season was the finest thing on television the world has ever seen. 2) Ending? Whazzuh? I'm a sucker for ominousness (?). you know what I mean...like when you saw the shots of the trees blowing or the waterfall, you KNEW something bad would happen and then you'd start shivering in anticipation and going "oh, this is so gooood" The best best best episode was the one in which Maddy was killed, because say what you will about the other amazing episodes, nothing was so mind-blowing than that final scene. From Bob in the mirror to the giant appearing and saying "It is happening again" to Donna crying to Maddy and Leland dancing in slow motion with Maddy's bloody mouth open...good God almighty. |
I thought that show was boss. And I'm still waiting for a proper ending. I remember hearing a rumor Years ago that they were going to do an episode of the X-Files that picked up where this left off, and explain the whole Cooper thing. I still make Twin Peaks references. Whenever I give the thumbs up, it's a Coop Thumb. If I need to go to the potty I tell the world I have to urinate. teehee! I always thought Audrey was preeeeeeeeeeetty. There were a lot of disjointed plot points and dangling stories throughout the whole thing. I had an almost constant feeling of waiting for them to finish things they never did. Still, I liked it a whole bunch. Except the movie. The movie Sucked. When I was in public school I handed in the songs from the soundtrack for a written assignment. I made sure the teacher knew I didn't write them, but I felt they were appropriate for the moment. I forget why. This has been a very badly written post. Sorry. |

the tapes, either. I don't think I labeled them. Bravo used to run re-runs, but I think they vowed never to air them again or something. You can buy the tapes from movie catalogs, if you're interested. I was 12 or so when I watched the show, and I was very impressionable, and that one episode I mentioned was like burned into my brain, which is why I remember it -- but I only remember the end. Oh, yeah, and the beginning had the Log Lady talking about "beware the pale horse." Andy was my favorite character, for some reason. And Pete. I had a friend who wanted to look like Audrey, so she would constantly push up her eyebrows in the hope that they would start to arch. Duh. Another episode that was awesome was the one in which Ronette in the hospital has that seizure and sees Bob. Or the one with the minah bird that says "Laura! Laura!" I think that was the neatest thing about the show -- it was scary, sure, but it was really really sad in a very strange way. Something was always happening that made you feel bad. I always thought it was neat that the show opened with Laura's death, and everybody was crying and mourning her, but you as a viewer had no idea who she was, so you could watch detached and not feel involved and just watch these people act upset. But when Leland dies in that tiled room, at that point you knew his story, and couldn't watch without crying and feeling terrible for days. Re: Quantum Leap -- good, yes. better than Twin Peaks? You really think so? |
I think the first episode I ever saw was the one where Leland was pointed at as the murderer (Bob. whatever.), and it just Sucked me in. I didn't see the first episode till Bravo! started showing them, so I didn't get that feeling of detachment, cuz I'd already seen so much of Laura Palmer already. I also remember reading "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer". Did you read that? It was interesting. I bought it for my mother for christmas and read the whole thing before I wrapped it. I think my favorite character was Coop. I really liked Wyndom Earl too. I saw him on a couple of episodes of "Due South" a while ago and I was squealing his name out and hoping he's kill someone and stick them in a chess peice. Was that Heather Grahm who played Annie? My friend ren used to have the Penguin joke in her e-mail signature...I wish I could remember it. I just read The New Mutants Summer Fun #1, and they mentioned the show -- Warlock: "Self's favorite show Twin Peaks is on tonight!" Bobby: "Oooh! We can find out who killed Laura Palmer!" Rahne: "I know who did it! They ALL killed her, but Nobody did because her Soul escaped and went into Donna, it's sinful to think so, I know, and Copper's going to marry Audrey, and --" Am I crazy, or does that seem like a really good idea?? I mean if Bob can hop from person to person, why not Laura? I think that could've really been interesting. |
I predict that age 60 I will still be touting this show as the best thing on TV ever. "I think that was the neatest thing about the show -- it was scary, sure, but it was really really sad in a very strange way. Something was always happening that made you feel bad." God, that's funny. That is so stereotypically Me. |
I'm sad that the bird died. |
Hurrah for Twin Peaks tivo takeovers. |
Your aunt Char is Bobby Briggs' mother, right, Platy? I watched episodes 10-14 last night (yes, all in a row, with no breaks). After the end of episode 14 I found that I had been gripping my hands together for so long that my fingers were stiff and painful. It's still terrifying after all these years! Agatha, you have to tell me what you think of the episode that begins with the Log Lady saying "Woe to the ones who behold the pale horse." (Bravo is showing the Log Lady's intros, right?) Tonight -- Eraserhead. |
I think she is, yeah. She's also the mother in eraserhead. In fact, she plays a lot of motherly types. Interesting. |
apparently, I used to smell. how 'bout that? |
I can't remember any details about the one where the Log Lady says "Beware of the Pale Horse." Is that the one where Leland kills Maddy? Dave and I made you a video, spidey, I'll see if I can figure out how to post it. I just watched the last episode a couple of days ago, and then panicked when I saw there were no future episodes scheduled on the Tivo. Then I went to some Twin Peaks site and saw that it was indeed the last episode. I can't stand it! It's far too unresolved! I'm going to make a Black Lodge living room in the next house we move to. |
Yes, the "pale horse" episode is the one you're thinking of. That's my favorite one. That's probably my favorite episode of any tv show, ever -- I think it's just perfect. I watched about 2/3 of "The Straight Story" last night. It's amazingly sweet, though if you didn't see the opening credits, you could still recognize it as a Lynch movie from all the long lingering shots, droning noises, people with odd voices, long silences, etc. Big Ed even makes a cameo. |
the very last episode was a serious mindfuck, as well. i couldn't come to terms with the fact that there were no more episodes after that one. it's just so wrong. i've never heard of that movie. i'll have to check it out. |
I had read that David Lynch ended Twin Peaks like that to protest its cancellation. Don't you just want to smack him? |
i have heard about that movie. i'm going to rent it. |
