If you haven't seen the picture, it is Miley, clutching a sheet to her chest, her bare back and shoulder exposed. Her expression is far from seductive or sexual; there is nothing lascivious about her demeanor. And poor Miley, taken advantage of. That horrible Annie, her horrible consenting parents. (Nevermind the decidedly lascivious and self-shot bikini pics that leaked to the internet in January). Send in Myles Standish. We need this demonic rabble dismantled. It is so terrible that we see the fifteen-year old shoulder blade of the girl who is teaching our children to be good consumers of crap merchandise they don't need. |
i would never let my 15 year old daughter pose like that for photographs, even for Annie Leibovitz. she can do whatever she wants when she's 18. but i still wouldn't want her to do it even then. |
not being a parent, maybe i don't have the same protective instincts. |
(with the caveat that any boy that tries to touch her would be CRUSHED. CRUSHED.) And, of course, my wife would veto it, so it would never happen. :) |

i think posing like that is in every context inappropriate for a 15 year old girl. adolescents may have burgeoning sexual identities, but they are still CHILDREN. in my opinion, it is up to both parents and society to help protect their youth and their sexuality. they have the rest of their lives to be adults and make adult decisions. according to an unidentified news informant (i.e. unreliable source) her parents are "mortified". and it is being said that they were not around for the end of the photo shoot. only they know the truth about how they feel about those photos - if they did or did not, do or do not approve of them. who am i to judge whether or not Miley's parents are good parents. parents are just people, getting up every day, and doing their best. some days "their best" if really great, and some days "their best" is terrible. maybe they are pimping out their daughter for money and scandal - since time always always proves that stars' worst scandals in the long run turn out to their benefit. even if that were true, i still wouldn't call them bad parents. perhaps just poor role models. or people who made a bad decision. same goes for Miley. she seems like a totally benign character who made a bad decision. |
As for being too young, when I was 15-17 I got more nookie than at any other time in my life, and it was with more than willing girls my age. That's why, when my girl gets to be that old, I will CRUSH any boy that even looks at her funny. Hell, we were looking at houses the other day (getting room to expand, donchya know) and I nixed one house because one of the upstairs bedrooms had great "escape out the window" potential. (When I was 16 that was one way me and my girlfriend at the time got together without her parents knowing: through her 2nd story window.) So I just expect teens to be sexual maniacs. It'll just happen. You just have to try and prevent the worst from happening. |

and what if you had a son instead of a daughter? ground floor bedroom? easy access to the neighborhood nookie? |
|
i suppose that depends on her and her parents. |

And, yeah, what's your story, pepper? |

very redeemable artists have been painting portraits and shooting pictures of teenagers in potentially provociative fashion for centuries and they go for millions of dollars at auction houses or hanging in museums the world over. im with nate. bikinis at the neighborhood and short skirts in the classroom do far more to distract teen boys than this picture. seriously, if this offensive as a society, then we've got a lot more self reflecting to do. i would be comfortable with my daughter posing for beautiful portraits such as this. id be less comfortable with my 15 daughter in a mini skirt, or bra-less tank top. |
