    What does this mean? --

    The devil you know beats the devil you don't.


    Is that anything like it's better to be safe than sorry, or does it mean the opposite? I can't figure it out.

    i've always taken it to mean that it's better to have an enemy - or a problem, whatever - that you can see, understand, and deal with head on.
