does anybody have a lead on a good, cheap source of airline tickets other than priceline, travelocity, or mr. cheap's travel?

By Czarina on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 - 02:16 pm:

try southwest airlines, they have some really good rates, and don't just fly in the southwest.

By semillama on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 - 05:08 pm:

Yeah, but do they fly out of Wisconsin?

By J on Saturday, June 10, 2000 - 10:41 am:

Czarina,I see Sem is going to Portland soon,I,m thinking it would be cool to hook him up with T**,what do you think?

By semillama on Saturday, June 10, 2000 - 12:46 pm:

so, I am flying to Dallas - "The town where they shoot the people that shoot presidents", then to Portland. Fucking crazy. Well, at least I can say i was in Dallas. I have an hour layover, which is enough time to get really bored but not enough to do anything about it. Then to Portland and Super Monkey Fun!

By Gee on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 03:56 am:

say hi to J.R. for me!

By Antigone on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 05:10 am:

When are you going to be here, sem? Will you be here long?

By Antigone on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 05:12 am:

Oh, didn't read your entire post. I'd say, "let's meet," but unless you'll be here from 7-8pm ish tomorrow, I'm not anywhere near the airport.

By semillama on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 01:40 pm:

I will be in Dallas friday the 30th from 5pm to about 6:30, and again on the 5th from 5;30 am to 7:30 am.

Guh. I'm going to have to get psychotic on coffee to drive back from this one.

By Antigone on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 05:46 pm:

Bummer, dude. On the 30th, that's the day before a holiday weekend during rush hour. The airport might as well be in Oklahoma at that hour. An on the 5th I'll be in Tennessee. Maybe the next time you're in Dallas...

By Czarina on Sunday, June 11, 2000 - 06:37 pm:

J,I think that might be a good idea, she could kinda give him the lay of the land.Sem,how long will you be in Portland? My daughter lives there,
she just finished college, with a degree in film, not acting, but producing, directing, that kind of stuff, she's into documentaries. And she's very attractive, and very sweet,[not just motherly pride talking here,J can verify this],she is however, in
a relationship, but undoubtedly has single friends,
and maybe you could all go out.Let me know, and I'll get in touch with her.

By semillama on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 12:41 pm:

see above, my last post about when I will be there. However, what is the point of trying to set me up when I'll only be ther a couple days, and live across the continent?

By Czarina on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 01:16 pm:

Well, the point is-----------why not have fun while you're there. One never knows when an old aquaintance might show up in Cheeseland. Is your trip business or pleasure?

By Czarina on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 01:58 pm:

By J on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 03:06 pm:

I,m telling you Sem,she is a doll, you don,t want to let this pass you by,why can,t my daughters make me as proud as I am of Czarinas?

By Czarina on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 04:03 pm:

I am really lucky, how she turned out so well with me for a mom,I'll never know! But she does have a good sense of humor,a prerequisite for this family.

By semillama on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 05:01 pm:

already have a ticket, and I'm pretty much booked up re: my social life there. I'm going out to see my best friend, who I haven't seen in like 2 years.

By Czarina on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 06:30 pm:

Have fun!If you get a chance,go to the Oregon coast, its only a little over an hour away, and its truley beautiful. You might want to check out the 24 hour church of Elvis, your friend should know where to find it.Well,I could go on and on about the treasures of Oregon, but I won't.

By J on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 08:46 pm:

Yea Sem,you can,t say we never tried.

By Dougie on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 08:46 pm:

The Catskills are beautiful. I never knew. Just got back from a week of camping/fishing. I always thought you had to go out west to get this, but it was just out my back door. Well, they're not as spectacular as the Tetons, but WTF, I can do without the half-day flight. Plus, the trout fishing is just as good, if not better. I never knew. Who woulda thunk it.

By Isolde on Monday, June 12, 2000 - 10:02 pm:

Glad you were able to make the discovery...I've never been to te Catskills, but I've heard they're quite handsome.

is that where Trixie Beldon lived?

By Cat on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 - 07:50 pm:

Anybody got any ideas on great hotels in NYC? I'm going to be there in a few weeks...usually stay at the Marriott World Trade Centre, but I want somewhere a lot less "corporate". I'm on an expense account so cost is not a big factor.

By Bell_jar on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 - 09:53 pm:

i'm going to nyc in august, cost is a big factor. i have a friend who spent spring break working in a homeless shelter in nyc. she has it in with the workers. i might try to shack up there. you know, do some volunteer work.

otherwise, i hear they have all night movie theaters. of course i read that in a book, a fiction book... so... if you could scope out some good park benches it would be oh so helpful. i have no objection to not showering. i spent my spring break in philadelphia, i stayed in a church where there weren't any showers. the school i worked at didn't have any showers either. if need be i can do it again.

By Cat on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 - 10:32 pm:

I'd be delighted to Bell...after years of back-packing around America, Europe and Asia, I am more than adroit at spotting excellent park benches. Though I preferred railway station benches, since they offer more weather protection, better security and ready access to bathroom facilities (often with showers).

I also recommend airports, bus shelters (but they're often taken by more permanent residents), and my personal favourite, buddhist monasteries (though not good if you enjoy the odd round of nekkid Twister).

By patrick on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 - 12:19 pm:

the aussie backpackers are coming the backpackers are coming!!!!!!

it's about that time......they have covered the streets of hollywood......if any one comes to LA, there are about 2-3 hostels within a block of my work.......

i too will be in NYC in august, but for business.....brokering large deals for porn.

By Bell_jar on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 - 05:26 pm:

i stayed in a hostel in new orleans a few years ago. i met a lot of people. it was nice. i thought i might spend a few nights in a hostel while in nyc just to meet some people, as i will be traveling alone, but although they are cheap i don't think i could manage to afford them for a whole week.

once when i was sixteen i took a roadtrip to arizona. i had about $20 to get me to arizona and back and i was only in oklahoma, so i stopped at a gas station and told these two women who looked my grandmother's age that i was going to arizona to see my grandmother and i'd run out of money. they let me stay at their house that night and they gave me $40, filled up my tank, and i got some popcorn and apples to take on the road.
    ahh... old ladies. how nice.

By Isolde on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 - 07:21 pm:

Wow. Hostels are expensive in the US.

By Dougie on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 - 07:23 pm:

That's just NYC. Probably cheaper elsewhere.
