I do so wish you were all here right now because there's a bushfire in the next valley from me. We could be sitting on my verandah, sinking a few cold ones, chug a lugging some Fosters, wetting our whistles, filling up the old bladder stations and keeping a close eye on things.

Yessiree, this is the hot place to be.

    Sheeeeeit! Are you in danger?

(Silly question, I know. If you are, you won't
exactly have time to post, now will you?)

Ohhhh..the bush fires in the velvet valleys next to one's own. my oh my. kick back a Mister Dog's lemonade on ice...

Thanks for caring, Snookums, but it wasn't really all that exciting or dangerous or cause to raise a sweat over. My brigade didn't get called out, though I did flood the gutters just in case.

I really just thought it was a good excuse for a drinking session. Watching bushfires is hot, dry work ya know.

We get quite a few of those up here in Montana, they are kinda fun to watch. And the local forrest service doesn't do a damn thing because we have trees out her that won't sprout seeds unless its in a fire... Pretty fucked up huh?

    Nope.

    It's called "nature"

By Ranger Daniel ssss on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 06:27 pm:

A bush's main concern in life is not to avoid pain or to gain pleasure but rather to see a meaninfulness in its life. That is why a bush is even ready to suffer in a bush fire, on the condition to be sure, that its suffering has a meaning.

    after Victor Frankl (on man)

So, dear firewatchers and Fosterchuggers, the bush wandered into the cool-ass studio of its resident Bushmaster and asked:

"Master, tell me what it is that your teacher saw to have the Most Importance in life."

The Master thought for a moment about his Teacher, and said, "Whatever he was doing, I suppose."

One thing I learned from watching smoke from brushfires: there's never a mirror far away.

Off to paint (literally, as in 'semi-gloss enamel of the lightest plum color,' and as in 'with a brush and roller and cheescloth') the privy.

    hehe...BUSHfire....

is that like hot sex witha red head?

if so, there are BUSHfires nearly every week at my house.

On another disaster note, we had a couple of rattling, whisky chugging quakes over the weekend. The first one was a 4.3....scared the hell out of me. The feeling of vulnerability is intense, my apartment felt like a house of cards. The next one was 4.1, about 25 minutes later....this one was a little more ragged and violent. Again, we ran for the door, but by the time i turned the knob it was over....

my fear is not subsided by the fact that my apartment bldg. is built into a hill, and our bedroom is the furthest corner out, meaning, its the highest up, about 4 stories...

You know, if you californians would just live in hot-air ballons, you wouldn't have this problem all the time.
