sorabji.com: I need advice: health insurance
By heathre on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 08:18 pm:

so i have a choice to make about health
insurance- whether i want it or not.

if i do- i pay it all myself and it ain't cheap,
    almost 10% of my paycheck.

it seems stupid not to do it but i'm kinda
pissed that they aren't planning to pay any of it.

maybe i should get a new job.

what would you do? do i have any options in
    insuring myself?

take it. for now. look for new work with better benefits.

does your employer offer a 'cafeteria' plan? if so, have them put your healthcare fees into that, so they are deducted from your check before taxes.

that will save you some change. and if its a big burden from your paycheck, look to have less taxes taken out to keep your take home in accordance with your budget.

you never know, when you might end up needing it.

i pay $41/mo for major medical with Blue Cross of California. It doesn't cover much for routine shit, but my medical expenses will never exceed $5K in a year.

At least cet catastrophic. After the fall I had a couple of months ago I was left with a $1000 bill that I still can't pay...

...and it could have been a whole lot worse...

move to hawaii and get a job. employers have to pay for your health insurance.

    that's my advice.

    Take the Health insurance!!!

Compared to the cost of medical bills; health Insurance is a bargain.

But, don't go to an HMO!. They are great if you are healthy and only need preventive care.

It's when you have a serious medical problem that you find you can't get treatment.

Buy the best policy you can afford. You never know when you'll need it.

Even with very good coverage I've had a lot of medical bills over the last year and I'm finally getting most of them paid.

Of course every now and the Health Insurance companies can be a real pain.

My wife was in the hospital during huricane Isabel and the insurance company decided it wasn't medically necessary for her to be in the hospital all that time. She should have been in a transisional care facility. ie nursing home.

I haven't got all the letters I need yet. But, I'm definately fighting this one.
