anyone ever heard of or listened to this guy? he's supposed to be a new wave songwriter reminiscent of elvis costello. i think he's from minneapolis and been around since the mid-80s. would it be worth it to me to buy "mission of my soul: the best of peter himmelman" for $2.98.

You can listen to him here.

His voice sounds a lot like Elvis Costello's, but not his music. To me, it sounds like the blandly pretty acoustic guitar-driven music you hear in Starbucks. I'd rather spend the $3 on tea, but that's me.

I'm listening to Memphis Minnie singing "Preachers Blues." The periodic dirtiness is making me laugh.

cant say i have. Im listening to a few excerpts and the costello comparisons are spot on. the album im listenign to excerpts from is caled the Pigeons Couldnt Sleep.

it sounds good, totally worth 3 bones

I've added it to my want list.

the reason i asked is that i still don't have speakers on my computer and i'm too lazy to try to find a jack or something to plug my 4-track headphones into.

i've been going through my daedalus music catalog - obscure remainder stuff at low prices. i decided i had to have the live 1938 fats waller and the 1962 larry young album "groove street". (you, patrick, might recognize that name as the organist on miles' "bitches brew".) i thought i throw at least one disk made after i was born, and saw the himmelman. i'll have to weigh this decision. though i'm starting to think that a better choice might be to hold off and buy a townes van zandt cd.

my mother's new car has one of those satellite radio things where you get all sorts of different stations anywhere you go. one of them is classic blues. i asked her how she liked the blues (she had some experience with blues music, but not extensive) and she said: "well, this one song came on - a woman singer - and it was about a laundromat or something like that. i thought, why would anybody write a song about that? and then i really thought about the words, and i thought: that's the naughtiest song i've ever heard!" those good ol' double-entendre blues.
