I was going to make the standard baked beans with ketsup, onion, bacon and brown sugar tomorrow. Now I see my Bush's Baked Beans are honey flavored.
Do you think I should omit the brown sugar? I don't want them too sweet.Where can we go with this? Help!! I'm conflicted.

Use the brown sugar, but add mustard and more onions. That's my position, and I'm sticking with it.

a great spice you can add to any gas-inducing dish? asafetida. wont really alter the taste if anything it will add an onion flavor but it really helps.

just finished cooking about a quart of navy beans. i didn't have a ham hock, so i just added chicken bouillon, a pinch of thyme and a dash of cayenne. i already have the salmon croquettes and turnip greens ready. all i have to do is make the cornbread tonight and i'll be good for the week.
