I'm out working Sunday afternoon, doing something I don't normally do, but doing it cause its work (the kind that pays) and its HOT outside and I'm tired and don't have a schematic and am moving this wire trying to trace a circuit and WHAM oh shit I know what this is but by that time just wondering when its gonna be over and if I'll be able to get out of there. If you've been shocked good before you know what I'm talking about. I feel my arm vibrating and my body shaking and in an instant I get away but before I can get out it grabs me again. I felt like I really didn't even TOUCH it but it jumped out and grabbed me. Thats another one of those things about getting shocked. Its just like that. You NEVER just grab hold of a live wire its always something out of place, screwed up that kinda stuff. The interesting part being totally conscious of what is going on and trying to do something but taking what seems like forever to get your body to actually DO it. Why I say just dumb and not stupid, is I'm a big believer in ONE handed wiring for live circuits. Keeps it from going THROUGH the heart - so when you ARE dumb and do get hit hopefully it doesn't kill you :) Worst ever was 480 volts that actually burned the skin on a knuckle and messed up my heartbeat for a couple o minutes. The result of stupidity no doubt but there again being just dumb and not stupid. I was writing this story to my best friend and was half way through, when for some reason I felt strongly compelled to stop and go post. Things don't happen totally by chance - so whoever out there this is for, don't be stupid, be dumb, use one hand and live to tell about it. In memory of Karl, one of the best electrician/ac men I ever had the honor to work with. Hey buddy, I made it one more day. :) |
