This morning in Toronto....it is cold......wind chill is around 20 deg. F. Snow on the ground and melting fast. High winds overnight....trees down...power black outs....traffic this morning was awful...usual 1 hour commute took 2 and half. Damn!! think maybe I'll start taking the train ...but then I'll miss my morning dose of Howard Stern. Decisions.....decisions. |

Wish I could find a place where I don't need air conditioning or an electric blanket. Is there such a place?....and are they hiring? |

maple leaf is right about how the damp coastal pacific northwest winters can really chill you. I spent last winter in ukraine, which was much colder and snowier than portland, but I felt warmer most of the time. if it's just sort of cold out but you get wet, it's really hard to warm up again. not that I'm complaining. I don't mind the wet so much as the dark. |
I'm actually looking forward to some snow. So I can put on my snowboard and go re-fracture my $12K wrist. It is nice walking the dogs in this weather, though. |
|
i don't have air conditioning or an electric blankey. don't feel i need either, as it is. |
|
Hawaii supposedly is very static season-wise I've gone from W. Texas to Alaska to eastern Idaho |
|
Today was pretty, though. Grey skies, very windy, and the sun came out around sunset while there were dark clouds in the sky so the light was all golden and eerie against the dark backgrounds. Nice. |

J...in response to what I do anyways....I do 'top secret' work for the government ..if I told you more than that I would have to come to Arizona ...search you out....and kill you.....can't be too many Janny's around. Oh yeah...in addition to perfect weather...there has to be golf courses/ |

Here in Chch we get four seasons (in one day at times), but the weather is temperate. Very little or no snow in winter, but enough of a frost to make you look forward to spring. Spring is beautiful, my favourite time of year. Blossoms etc everywhere. This really is the garden city. Summer is nice - warm, but generally not too hot. Most people don't bother with aircon at home, although many businesses have it now. Plus, when you have Christmas in summer it is very different - eating outdoors, drinking cold champagne. Autumn is also beautiful, as the trees change colour around easter time. Plus, if you like golf, NZ has more golf courses per head of population than anywhere else. Chch alone has about a dozen (more if you count the ones up to an hour out of town). One of them is even planning night golf, starting at midnight in the new year. If the weather here is too hot or cold, a little further north or south and the climate changes subtly. I was able to travel a lot this year, and there are places here that we just take for granted, but they are breathtaking when you see them with fresh eyes. |

Going down to the travel agent to check out flights and rates. J.....you make me blush. |

Largest city in the South Island, on the coast of the Canterbury plains. Best place in the world to live I reckon. |
to be 2" of accumulation. but the fact that anything accumulated is big news. the local stations run constant weather reports. it probably gets more coverage than the blizzard did in new york. up on 4th street, which i can see out of my window, there's a steady stream of traffic. but they're all crawling along; a person could jog next to these cars and carry on a conversation. it's as if the whole world is in slow motion. i definitely won't be able to leave the apartment. i have no booze, so that might be a good thing. i drank a lot of vodka last night. |
I learned that yesterday, that we had one of our truck route are being cutted down from 5 to 4. a couple of years ago, we had like 6 trucks for route designations. I am not for sure why. Woke up this morning to find that my body went on libido on full rage. |
"snow days," but i'm getting a little stir crazy. and i look forward to a drink. libido on full rage? do tell. |
I have two more job interviews this week and I have to pack up my stuff. cause we are moving out for good after 16 years here in this town. My brother tells me that I needs more money than I am currently am working as of right now, but I had to look for a better method kind of job. |

else except cuba (apparently), insane. people i know are having a *lot* of sex because they don't have anything else to do. we don't have it as bad as boston or rhode island but it still sucks ass. i slipped on ice a few days ago and gave my coccyx and the back of my head a rude wake up call. i am pretty certain i have/had a concussion but the symptoms seem to be fading. was dizzy, nauseous, and slightly incoherent but never vomited. made sex very difficult, albeit impossible. i never gave my coccyx enough credit for its contribution to the sex thing. i was trying to decide about going to a doctor but it took too long because i had to fire all my doctors (and dentist) of ~15 years. the ACA made me change insurances and so the whole "if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor" cunard is grating at my craw. i insist on a doctor whose first language is english and this new "platinum" plan seems to have very few such individuals. i encountered almost no accents before landing in new york and in 24 years i have tried to get used to reverse-engineering context and gestures to understand what foreigners are saying -- and i have made honest efforts to get better at it -- but it's still too random to leave to something like medical advice and diagnoses. i saw a breathing specialist last year who was indian and i had no fucking idea what he was saying to me. most of the time i have no idea what my (greek) landlord is saying. i constantly have to ask a japanese friend to repeat herself, sometimes 5 or 6 times, because i can't understand what the fuck she's saying, but other american friends seem to be on the same wavelength and conduct lengthy conversations with her. |
good. Many of us had some problems with foreigner peoples. So what is good for us? |

I'm hard of hearing anyway. So when I get someone who has problems with English pronunciation it's doubly hard to understand what they are saying. I mostly have problems with the illegals these days. They just love Maryland. |
continent except antartica at some point or another. never bothered me. sometimes i much prefer it to seeing american doctors. a little while ago i was rolling around downtown fort worth. i was crossing the street and my shoe fell off. i got to the other side and waiting as cars rolled over it (not with wheels, it was dead center in the lane). a foreign guy actually pulled over, waved at me to stay on the sidewalk, and ran out into the street and got it for me. |
foreign doctors. One of them gave me cavity search. Yuck! |
I still miss this kind of internet. The pond (Stewardship Forest, horse farm, young people) is still iced over, though it's mostly slush, & there are patches where the water's met the melt from above. I still haven't gone cross-country skiing this winter. I suppose I've got a date with a Deus ex Machina before the 20th. The inside of my left nostril is still raw from impulsive palpations, flesh seared from playing bellows to embers nestled amongst cold-gripped tinder, a non-Euclidean pyre built atop snow & ice. Jasmine oil soaks in, dripped in, head tilted back. The watcher wounded, still the tell-tale feathers about the grounds. What that ill-fated ping will bring, who knows? We'll all awake, later than we think, & in the meanwhile, you'll just have to see where dreamtime will take you. From here, it's still from afar, like ultra-fine mosaic, Vaseline over the lenses, lysergic bliss-bubbles pop with rarity, but so real it seems. |
of course, i'm on my second bottle of wine. |

today i saw a grackle with what appeared to be a blow dart through its skull. i took a short video; I might post it on facebook. |
I miss nothing what color is your... |

was on a short, rickety drawbridge which was shaking quite a bit more than i realized. for some reason when i lifted the camera to my face to take a picture my legs started involuntarily shaking. i couldn't control it. there was nothing between me and the steady flow of cars speeding past. i've had weird concussion symptoms since falling a few weeks ago but i thought they were all gone by now. turns out stuff like this can go on for months. guess it's time to find a doctor to see if blood is getting onto my brain. |

See a doc sooner than later, mt. Concussions are nothing to fuck around with! |
have nothing to fall back on. |
all over the city. The snow just melted over two weeks ago and now I am just irritated by that. |
|
it's a waste of everyone's time. |
asshole. |
I just love those fuzzy kitten pics. |
Between all the news sites, cute animals, and my classmates posting about our special reunion. We are celebrating surviving to be in our 60's. I'll be 61 just a few days before the reunion. Surprisingly, some of the ladies still look hot! |
