Hey look, its snowing now. 3 days ago it was 68 deg. Now its snowing. Friday is supposed to be 70. What the hell is going on? I mean I know it Canada but snow? last year it didn't snow until the END of the month!

By J on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 08:49 am:

It,s going to be a 90 degrees here today,God how I hate the heat in the summer, but being cold and shoveling snow is worse.I wish I could stand the cold, cause Vancouver sounds like a place I,d really like.

By MapleLeaf on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 09:09 am:

Vancouver isn't cold.....it's damp and it goes right through ya.

This morning in Toronto....it is cold......wind chill is around 20 deg. F. Snow on the ground and melting fast. High winds overnight....trees down...power black outs....traffic this morning was awful...usual 1 hour commute took 2 and half. Damn!! think maybe I'll start taking the train ...but then I'll miss my morning dose of Howard Stern.

    Decisions.....decisions.

By J on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 10:44 am:

Take the train and a radio with headphones,I get goosebumps just thinking about snow and winds.Hope you have a down comforter.

By MapleLeaf on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 11:14 am:

yes I do.....plus an electric blanket for those really bad nights.

Wish I could find a place where I don't need air conditioning or an electric blanket. Is there such a place?....and are they hiring?

By ________ on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 11:44 am:

How about Hawaii? I think Xerox is hiring.

By Sister on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 11:49 am:

we got 6 cm of snow and they're calling for 15 more. at least it waited until after halloween.

By J on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 12:25 pm:

Costa Rica, thats the ticket,it sounds to me like that song The Way,by Fastball,I bet you could get a good Job there M.L. What do you do anyway?

By Cyst on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 03:41 pm:

most americans and canadians would think costa rica needed air conditioning, I think.

maple leaf is right about how the damp coastal pacific northwest winters can really chill you. I spent last winter in ukraine, which was much colder and snowier than portland, but I felt warmer most of the time. if it's just sort of cold out but you get wet, it's really hard to warm up again.

not that I'm complaining. I don't mind the wet so much as the dark.

By Wavydave on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 05:13 pm:

Idaho has reverted back to mid-fall. It's sunny, calm and mid-60s here.

I'm actually looking forward to some snow. So I can put on my snowboard and go re-fracture my $12K wrist.

It is nice walking the dogs in this weather, though.

By Me..... on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 05:35 pm:

The weather in kansas city, missouri is apparently much like idaho........it's sunny and windy, and mid to low '60's.........beautiful day for renewing old friendships and starting new ones.........I also am looking forward to snow.......it's purty........Que sera', sera'

By Nate on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 05:40 pm:

"Wish I could find a place where I don't need air conditioning or an electric blanket. Is there such a place?....and are they hiring?"

i don't have air conditioning or an electric blankey. don't feel i need either, as it is.

By Me.......... on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 06:48 pm:

gee.........i don't think there is such a place, Nate......brownsville, texas was the closest i ever came to it.......but even there, it gets humid....and once we had an ice storm........I know !!!maybe hawaii........i remember when i was there, it seemed to be comfortable all the time....or come here for the week, at least.......it's nice........

By Wavydave on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 07:23 pm:

I'd say West Texas has a pretty mild winter, but it does get really hot and dusty in the summers.

Hawaii supposedly is very static season-wise

I've gone from W. Texas to Alaska to eastern Idaho

By Droopy on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 07:44 pm:

    texas weather sucks.

By Rhiannon on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 07:52 pm:

So does Pennsylvania weather. Two days ago it was in the 70s. Today it got up to 49. Supposedly it will be in the high 60s this weekend.

Today was pretty, though. Grey skies, very windy, and the sun came out around sunset while there were dark clouds in the sky so the light was all golden and eerie against the dark backgrounds. Nice.

By Semillama on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 08:34 pm:

Dug in the cold air this morning. i was scraping the sides of the unit to get a soil profile and the soil came away in frozen chunks. The steel caps of my boots froze my toes. I obviously did not dress warm enough. got up to about 46, not so bad when you keep warm by shoveling. Still, excavating in the cold sucks big time. no snow yet. This is my first time living west of the great lakes. I don't really know what to expect, except that i read somewhere that Tomah gets an average of only 28 inches of snow a year, which is ten times les than i am used to . Still, i left my winter boots at home, and I don't have the hardcore winter coat that I will need to acquire before traveling around this winter. Looking forward to the rise in temperature that is supposed to happen tomorrow.

By MoonIt on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 10:50 pm:

damn you peoples. Speak in Celsius!!!!!!

By MapleLeaf on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 11:15 pm:

It seems I have a few suggestions ...but damn!!! none of them jump out and tell me "Move here!!!". think I will continue searching.

J...in response to what I do anyways....I do 'top secret' work for the government ..if I told you more than that I would have to come to Arizona ...search you out....and kill you.....can't be too many Janny's around.

Oh yeah...in addition to perfect weather...there has to be golf courses/

By J on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 12:28 am:

I love youu Maple Leaf.you know your my man!

By NZAngel on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 12:28 am:

Well, there's only one place for you Maple, although I could be biased.

Here in Chch we get four seasons (in one day at times), but the weather is temperate. Very little or no snow in winter, but enough of a frost to make you look forward to spring. Spring is beautiful, my favourite time of year. Blossoms etc everywhere. This really is the garden city.

Summer is nice - warm, but generally not too hot. Most people don't bother with aircon at home, although many businesses have it now. Plus, when you have Christmas in summer it is very different - eating outdoors, drinking cold champagne. Autumn is also beautiful, as the trees change colour around easter time.

Plus, if you like golf, NZ has more golf courses per head of population than anywhere else. Chch alone has about a dozen (more if you count the ones up to an hour out of town). One of them is even planning night golf, starting at midnight in the new year.

If the weather here is too hot or cold, a little further north or south and the climate changes subtly.

I was able to travel a lot this year, and there are places here that we just take for granted, but they are breathtaking when you see them with fresh eyes.

By Evilrich on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 01:20 am:

    i can't tell, it's too dark

By Rhiannon on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 12:10 pm:

Chch? How do you pronounce that? Is that a nickname for Christchurch?

By Rand macnally on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 12:58 pm:

yes. it's the name of a large city on the south island, if i remember correctly.

By MapleLeaf on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 02:27 pm:

Chch sounds very nice ..... good weather and golf too...WOW!!!

Going down to the travel agent to check out flights and rates.

    J.....you make me blush.

By MoonIt on Thursday, November 4, 1999 - 04:50 pm:

Yup sure is Rhi, you say it like sshshh

By NZAngel on Friday, November 5, 1999 - 12:00 am:

    No, no, its pronounced tche-tche.

Largest city in the South Island, on the coast of the Canterbury plains. Best place in the world to live I reckon.

By droopy on Friday, February 27, 2015 - 02:45 pm:

it snowed today. not much, it'll probably end up
to be 2" of accumulation. but the fact that
anything accumulated is big news. the local
stations run constant weather reports. it probably
gets more coverage than the blizzard did in new
    york.

up on 4th street, which i can see out of my
window, there's a steady stream of traffic. but
they're all crawling along; a person could jog
next to these cars and carry on a conversation.
it's as if the whole world is in slow motion.

i definitely won't be able to leave the apartment.
i have no booze, so that might be a good thing. i
drank a lot of vodka last night.

By Pepper on Saturday, February 28, 2015 - 12:14 pm:

Well, we had a snow on the other days ago, and now the weather we are having are looking forward to a spring time.

I learned that yesterday, that we had one of our truck route are being cutted down from 5 to 4. a couple of years ago, we had like 6 trucks for route designations. I am not for sure why.

Woke up this morning to find that my body went on libido on full rage.

By droopy on Saturday, February 28, 2015 - 08:54 pm:

i doubt anybody up north wants to hear about my
"snow days," but i'm getting a little stir crazy.
and i look forward to a drink.

libido on full rage? do tell.

By Pepper on Sunday, March 1, 2015 - 08:07 am:

I don;t know what is causing, haven't had for a quite of time, I don't know if my age is slowing down or was busy lately without free time are causing this.

I have two more job interviews this week and I have to pack up my stuff. cause we are moving out for good after 16 years here in this town.

My brother tells me that I needs more money than I am currently am working as of right now, but I had to look for a better method kind of job.

By ... on Sunday, March 1, 2015 - 11:07 pm:

the weather is driving everybody here, and everywhere
else except cuba (apparently), insane. people i know
    are
having a *lot* of sex because they don't have
anything else to do. we don't have it as bad as
    boston or rhode island
but it still sucks ass. i slipped on ice a few days
ago and gave my coccyx and the back of my head a rude
    wake up
call. i am pretty certain i have/had a concussion but
the symptoms seem to be fading. was dizzy, nauseous,
    and
slightly incoherent but never vomited. made sex very
difficult, albeit impossible. i never gave my coccyx
    enough
credit for its contribution to the sex thing. i was
trying to decide about going to a doctor but it took
    too long
because i had to fire all my doctors (and dentist) of
~15 years. the ACA made me change insurances and so
    the whole
"if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor"
cunard is grating at my craw. i insist on a doctor
    whose first
language is english and this new "platinum" plan
seems to have very few such individuals. i
    encountered almost no
accents before landing in new york and in 24 years i
have tried to get used to reverse-engineering context
    and
gestures to understand what foreigners are saying --
and i have made honest efforts to get better at it --
    but it's
still too random to leave to something like medical
advice and diagnoses. i saw a breathing specialist
    last year who
was indian and i had no fucking idea what he was
saying to me. most of the time i have no idea what my
    (greek)
landlord is saying. i constantly have to ask a
japanese friend to repeat herself, sometimes 5 or 6
    times, because i
can't understand what the fuck she's saying, but
other american friends seem to be on the same
    wavelength and
    conduct lengthy conversations with her.

By Pepper on Monday, March 2, 2015 - 02:51 pm:

Maybe it is time that you moved out of N.Y.C for
    good.
Many of us had some problems with foreigner peoples.
So what is good for us?

By The Watcher on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 - 12:56 am:

I know what you are saying about foreign doctors, etc.. I have run across a few, usually in the ER.

I'm hard of hearing anyway. So when I get someone who has problems with English pronunciation it's doubly hard to understand what they are saying.

I mostly have problems with the illegals these days. They just love Maryland.

By droopy on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 - 01:57 am:

i think i've seen doctors from just about every
continent except antartica at some point or
another. never bothered me. sometimes i much
prefer it to seeing american doctors.

a little while ago i was rolling around downtown
fort worth. i was crossing the street and my shoe
fell off. i got to the other side and waiting as
cars rolled over it (not with wheels, it was dead
center in the lane). a foreign guy actually pulled
over, waved at me to stay on the sidewalk, and ran
out into the street and got it for me.

By Pepper on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 - 02:24 pm:

Hmm...never had my own America doctor, had plenty of
foreign doctors. One of them gave me cavity search.
    Yuck!

By Russell Kneesus on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 - 06:35 am:

I posted here many years ago.
I still miss this kind of internet.
The pond (Stewardship Forest, horse farm, young people) is still iced over, though it's mostly slush, & there are patches where the water's met the melt from above.
I still haven't gone cross-country skiing this winter. I suppose I've got a date with a Deus ex Machina before the 20th.
The inside of my left nostril is still raw from impulsive palpations, flesh seared from playing bellows to embers nestled amongst cold-gripped tinder, a non-Euclidean pyre built atop snow & ice. Jasmine oil soaks in, dripped in, head tilted back.
The watcher wounded, still the tell-tale feathers about the grounds. What that ill-fated ping will bring, who knows?
We'll all awake, later than we think, & in the meanwhile, you'll just have to see where dreamtime will take you. From here, it's still from afar, like ultra-fine mosaic, Vaseline over the lenses, lysergic bliss-bubbles pop with rarity, but so real it seems.

i almost fell into traffic yesterday. was bizarre. i
was on a short, rickety drawbridge which was shaking
quite a bit more than i realized. for some reason when
i lifted the camera to my face to take a picture my
legs started involuntarily shaking. i couldn't control
it. there was nothing between me and the steady flow of
cars speeding past. i've had weird concussion symptoms
since falling a few weeks ago but i thought they were
all gone by now. turns out stuff like this can go on
for months. guess it's time to find a doctor to see if
blood is getting onto my brain.

Surprisingly, some of the ladies still look hot!
