Driving

sorabji.com: What are you afraid of?: Driving

The other day Jules and I were really bored so we went cruising in her car. Anyway we were deciding if we should go thru the mcdonalds drive-thru or go to the supermarket (both in the same mall complex just at different ends) so we drive up to the supermarket end and of course its closed so she says what shall we do now, and i say i have an urge to drive.

Note: I have driven a car twice in my entire life (yes i know this is sad especially as I am 24), and those two times it was only up and down the driveway AND the first time I nearly sent the dog thru the windscreen (but I didnt so breathe easy okay).

She looks at me and says 'Alright!".

    We swap sides.

We start laughing. The kind of laugh that you can remember from childhood, when something is so compeletely unreal. From the gut laughter.

I put on my seatbelt and she puts on hers.

    I drive.

    Round the carpark.

    I indicated.

    I drove.

    I turned corners.

    I parked.

    I drove.

She asked me what I would do if I crashed.
I told her I would laugh.

I asked her what she would do if I crashed her $10,000 baby.
She said she would laugh so much she would probably wet herself.

Then she'd swap sides with me and pretend she did it.

But that didnt happen. I drove. There were occasions when there were other cars in the carpark. I didnt crash. I even reversed. It was way fun.

    My fear is slowly fading.

way to go moonit - mall carparks used to be much easier to drive in when the shops were closed on Sundays - you'd have the whole place to yourself (and other people learning to drive).

The first time I drove mum's car I nearly drove into the side of the house. I managed to stop about a foot from the wall. That was scary and I didn't want to drive again for a long time after that. I think it is best to have a driving instructor who doesn't already know, especially not a member of your family.

One time my step father was telling us off for slamming the car door. He said "If you slam the door like this" ... (slammed the door really hard)...and the window broke - which is what he was trying to say... hee hee that still makes me laugh when I remember that. He was so mad.
