This morning I had a dream.

I had a dream that I was driving with my roommate on the shoulder of a highway. She was driving the car, and I was a passenger. My car was following us, driving itself.

I asked R. to stop the car, because I knew that my car driving itself couldn't be good for its engine.

I got out of R's car, and I saw...another me in my car. I was me, and there was another me sitting in the middle of the front seat (like, over the parking brake) of my car. This other me smiled and waved at me enthusiastically through the windshield, like she missed me and was happy to see me again.

Even in the dream, I thought, this is weird. I went over to the driver-side door and looked in the window. I moved my arm and she moved her arm simultaneously. I shook my head and she shook her head.

When I opened the car door, though, she disappeared.

    I was so disappointed.

Where did she go? Who was she? What would she have said if I could have spoken to her?

    :(

    guardian angel? doppelgänger?

last night i had a dream i had some kind of important technology - just some electronic thing about the size of a pager - that i had to get to people in a tower. the tower was one long metal pole as high as a skyscraper with a vertical ladder running up the side. at the top was a disk sort of like the top of the seattle space needle. for some reason i had to climb escorted by two women, one in front and one behind. i grabbed the rungs of the ladder backwards, palms facing me, because i thought it would keep me from falling. as i climbed, the disk got farther and farther away until i was miles above the earth. the women weren't afraid at all, and at one point the one ahead of me climbed onto a little cot hanging by a thin rope on a peg on the side of the pole and rocked on it and laughed, which scared me. i never looked down, but i had a nauseating sense of how high i was. i eventually made it to the top. i guess i gave someone my little electronic thing, but i have no idea what it was for.

droop i think you may have answered this before, but in your dreams, whats the ratio of dreams where you walk vs the ones you are in your chair or both?

By Antigone on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 05:53 pm:

It was actually whisper dreaming me into your dream, only I looked like you.

    AND I WASN'T DULL, DAMMIT!

By drpy on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 06:45 pm:

sometimes i walk in my dreams, but i have to carry my wheelchair around with me on my back. the first year i was in a chair, i would dream that i'd get up of the chair and walk, but my legs hurt so much i'd have to get back in. it's very rare that i walk in a dream without some reference to the chair. other dreams my motion is ambiguous, or it's like i'm a camera moving through the dream. in the vertical ladder dream i had a sense that my legs were working, but all my attention was focused on my hands. lately, dreams where i'm in the wheelchair have to do with motion - like i'm racing on a race track or speeding down a hill or something. i've flown and rolled across water in my chair.

or there are dreams like the semi-erotic one i had a few nights ago were i'm just stationary. i was in a meadow near a forest, sitting in a pool - think it was a projection from a nearby stream. there were several naked, plump, rubenesque women around - like wood nymphs or something. one was in the pool with me, sitting opposite of me. we were flirting with each other.

    maybe it was antigone.

You guys walk in your dreams and you think that is isn't boring? I have sex in my dreams! Those aren't boring. I am a lot more flexible in my dreams and uninhibited. I like my dreams.

    ummmmm....

    nevermind.

    that's really interesting, droopy.

was talking to someone about dreams earlier tonight. he said he had one dream i was in where i got up out of my chair, walked over to another friend of ours named blake, and slugged him. blake can be a shit-head, but neither of us particlarly hate him. anyway, i've noticed that, if people i know dream about me at all, it tends to involve me getting up out of my wheelchair and committing some act of violence. and it's not like i'm seething with rage in real life; it's like i am their hitman.

Droopy, how come you're having all these dreams lately? I thought you didn't dream that often.

By droopy on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 12:50 pm:

normally, i don't. i didn't dream last night. i think it's just that i've been paying attention to them lately. maybe i just have a desire to dream and my subconscious is obliging me.

By Dougie on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 06:37 pm:

I dreamt of my wife on Monday night. Hadn't thought seriously about her in a while. Strange what the subconcious brings up. 7 years -- I can't believe it. Sleep well my love.
