I beleive that all heaven is, is a crutch for those people who can't comprehend the truth. That there is no great beyond or god and that we are just a physical and chemical compound, and when we die there will be nothing and we will be dead. Nothing else no happy-go-lucky kind of day. Heaven Isn't real.

By patrick on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 02:16 pm:

do you have proof of this? proof of this nothingness?

By Nate on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 04:49 pm:

science tends to point to an existance after death. you can't destroy energy, you know.

maybe you're comprehending the wrong truth?

By Slickypink on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 05:23 pm:

    i love you nate.

By Antigone on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 06:06 pm:

Of course you exist after you die. But do we exist in a way that we would like? How does that "you" change? Do we exist in a way that some form of self aware consciousness lives on? I'd like that, but I don't know if I'm gonna get it.

For a really fascinating book on the subject from a completely materialistic viewpoint check out Frank Tipler's "The Physics of Immortality"

To paraphrase a great religious thinker:

"If, when I die, I find myself in a tunnel of light and all my dead relatives and friends are there to welcome me, well, I'll be pleasantly surprised and glad to admit I was wrong (about the afterlife).

"However, if I die and that's it, I no longer exist, well, you won't hear me complaing then either."
