Agatha, your links worked for me. May Day is a huge tradition here at Bryn Mawr College. Huge. I think its roots are pagan/Celtic and it has continued to be a big traditional festival day throughout the centuries. Here everyone dresses in white and dances around the maypole (and the mayhole), and there is a hoop toss, and lots of bands come, and everyone's family visits, and the president of the college rides through the campus main on a white horse accompanied by bagpipe players....very big deal.
