wow. the civilian body count is between 253 and 333.

that's fucking amazing. i would have thought it would be a lot higher.

well, it's about between 36 and 47 people a day, if that's correct. so, minimally, a four month war would have about 4000 dead or so at the current rate.

Those headlines reminded me of supermarket tabloids.

Thanks, spunk. This is an excellent resource.

It's a great article, completely based on fact and with quotes from the architects of the current situation.

The best part is the very end:

"Are peace and security best achieved by seeking strong alliances and international consensus, led by the United States? Or is it necessary to take a more unilateral approach, accepting and enhancing the global dominance that, according to some, history has thrust upon us?

If we do decide to seize empire, we should make that decision knowingly, as a democracy. The price of maintaining an empire is always high. Kagan and others argue that the price of rejecting it would be higher still.

That's what this is about. "

I couldn't agree more. Personally, I don't know whether we should be the world's policeman. But we should have an open debate about it. Calling pro-war people "baby killers" and anti-war people "America haters" does nothing to make us safer.
