    Spunk, about building the linux box: try building your own with a K7SEM mobo and a Duron processor.

    You can make a decently powered box for about $150. (without the monitor)

    i built my own AMD XP 1800+ 1.3 GHz.
    it's got 512 megs of PC-2100 ram.
    I used the same hard drives that were in my 700 MHz P3.
    I got the ram, motherboard, processor and case for $300.

    I am planning on building my own system, did you check out the price list?

    I jsut keep forgetting that you guys on dial up have trouble with anyting over 512 kb
