So, the title should be, "Holy Foley!" :) |
Warning: the words you are about to see may shake your faith in the goodness of humanity. Jeez, the spelling alone could do that to you. |
I recognize that what he did was illegal, but i don't consider it wrong or immoral. ...actually scratch that. Upon further research, the age of consent in DC *is* 16. This is completely fucked. The way they're reporting it, i expected the "kids" to be all of 9 or 10. Freaky? yes. Illegal? no. wtf. |

as for the age of consent/jurisdiction issue, how does that work on the internets when it crosses state lines? at this point, if we could get republicans to resign for getting busted petting cats fur the wrong way, i'm all for it. but really, wisper 1 it's an abuse of a position of power 2 it's hypocritical on so many levels based on foley's party's position on homosexuality, and "morality" as well as his chairing of a comittee on child exploitation issues. 3 house republican leadership knew about this for nearly a year, probably much longer, and did nothing. 4 it might just be illegal 5 his im syntax and typos are fucking creepy and predatory. |

to make the kid think Foley is on his level and not a powerful senator who could crush him with a word. This implies deliberation and planning. I've recently heard that some states have age-of-consent laws regarding homosexual sex in particular, and that age could be different from heterosexual sex in the same state. Anyone know if this is true? |
middle-aged senator (+ cast fetish!) + high school kid. |
This is true, DC is not one of them. |
heh |
Age of consent in DC is 18. linky See § 22-3020 line (2) But the age of consent in DC doesn't matter. He was in Florida, and the kid was in Lousiana. linky That, and there's a 40 year difference between Foley and the kid. |
§81.3. Computer-aided solicitation of a minor A. Computer-aided solicitation of a minor is committed when a person eighteen years of age or older knowingly contacts or communicates, through the use of electronic textual communication, with a person who has not yet attained the age of eighteen or a person reasonably believed to have not yet attained the age of eighteen, for the purpose of or with the intent to persuade, induce, entice, or coerce the person to engage or participate in sexual conduct... |
