THIS IS A READ-ONLY ARCHIVE FROM THE SORABJI.COM MESSAGE BOARDS (1995-2016).

I have, as yet, been unable to find sheetmusic for Alkan's "La Chanson de la Folle au Bord de la Mer" -- poor me. It is a simple-sounding piece, though effectively hypnotic, and I'm thinking that it would be a nice piece for a lowly beginning pianist like myself to learn. Alas, my ears are not what they should be, and I cannot for the life of me tell what is going on in the very low, low registers.

So, if any of you can help, it would be much appreciated.

Oh, my apologies for posting that in this massage base -- I don't mean to imply that Alkan is by any means obscure.

Though, if availability of a composer's sheet music is any indication...

It's another name for the prelude, op. 31 no. 8, and Billaudot published it in an edition of Alkan works edited by Ronald Smith in 1979. They're in Paris. May not still be in print, though a number of libraries have it. Hrm. As to a more recent edition...
Masters Music, in Boca Raton Florida, published all 25 Preludes op. 31 (including, therefore, la Chanson) in 1997. Hope this is still in print and that this information is useful to you. Sorry, I don't check these boards as often as I might, took me a while to respond...
