sorabji.com: Obscure Classical Composers: Claude Vivier
By C. Berg on Tuesday, February 24, 1998 - 11:03 am:
I'm not sure I should even start this -- because I'm not sure I'm actually very interested -- but perhaps someone else REALLY is and will spark a fire under me. His lurid death of course makes him a "media natural" -- but I think there's something awfully new-Agey about everything of his I've heard that is eminently ignorable. (I don't notice, either, much out gayness -- any -- in this gay guy, and far too much talk of K-h Stockhausen as well.) Too successful too early to be a certifiable crank in the Sorabji/Delius/Grainger etc. mold. But does anyone see the picture differently? (In a way, I hope so.)

I guess this whole obscure composer thing has died a death, natural or un-. Too bad. I was sort of enjoying it.

It's not dead -- it's just over my head. And awaiting a new infusion. Plus, Jicotea hasn't been around to stir up trouble of late.

I got my own fish to fry, R.C. honey, like selling books to people who already have three million of 'em (collectively). It doesn't leave me a lot of time to play. Besides, spring has sprung, and although I'm too old to get particularly stirred up by the season, I can still dodder outside and creak around among the crocuses.
