so my mother shows up at my door earlier this evening. we won't be together for christmas and she has my present - a new stereo with a working cd player plus tape player and radio. i have my radio/tape/dead cd player in my bedroom, so i set the one my mom gave me up in the living room. i immediately put it on texas blues radio - tunes like "christmas blues" and "in jail for christmas".

and then i heard babs gonzales' "bebop santa clause" - a spoken word and organ thang about a family in harlem nodding on drugs who are visited by a santa in a flying cadillac.

this is significant because i heard about babs on this site. one of these threads. it's here somewhere.

Speaking of blues for christmas, doesn't it suck that Glen Mitchell is dead?

yes, that sucked completely. it's been a month since that happened, hasn't it? and he was only 55.
