    as someone who was born in michigan and raised in detroit, this series of photos touched me very deeply.

    though many parts of the city looked exactly the same way in the late 80's and early 90's, during a period that will be remembered in US history as a time of national prosperity. in the years shortly after earning my driver's license, friends and i used to cruise the city, particularly the west side, staring out the windows at brokedown palaces like tourists with a hollywood stars residence map.

    the only difference between now and then is how much people notice and how widespread and deep the desolation is. fact is, though, not much has change in detroit in the last 70 years, now it's just a media spectacle.

    Sarah, Yeah, I do vivid remember my last trip on the way home from Canada; My friend wants to cruise around the "Ghetto" neighborhood, I said "fudgeddaboutit" there was some board-up building like few of those picture you showed above. The funny thing was the traffic light didn't changes the color, then the police told us " Go ahead" and told us to leave the city, because it is not safe for me and my friend to cruise through the diplated street.
