If you've never been, make it a point to go. The people and the country are beautiful, both literally and figuratively. Went to Madrid for 4 days, and Barcelona for 4 days. Too little time, but enough to breathe some of it in. We loved Madrid -- The Prado, the Queen Sofia (with Picasso's Guernica), Plaza Mayor, the Gran Via, the bullfighting arena (didn't see a match, nor would I want to, but the stadium is beautiful), tapas, etc. etc. But we really really loved Barcelona. We were lucky enough to be there for the last two days of La Mercè, the yearly festival honoring the city's patron saint, Eulalia. Barcelonians definitely know how to make a joyful noise. Stayed right on the cathedral square, but unfortunately, the front of the Barcelona Cathedral was shrouded because they're doing work on it. El Museu Picasso, Santa Maria del Mar cathedral, the gothic quarter, Parc Guell, all truly amazing. But the most magnificent thing I've ever seen in my life was La Sagrada Familia. I have no words to describe it, or how I felt in seeing it. It just has to be seen.
