Catch 22 - Joseph Heller

sorabji.com: Worst book you've ever read: Catch 22 - Joseph Heller

    I know it's "an American Classic/but "Catch 22" was among the worst books I've ever read. The funny parts weren't funny & the other parts were just plain boring. I never managed to finish it h.s. & have tried twice to read it as an adult. I just can't get past the first 30 pages.

    It's definitely one of those books where the Cliff's Notes are more interesting than the book itself.

    I saw the movie when it came out and didn't really care for it either. Jeez, that was like 25 years ago. Time is a peculiar item....

    catch -22 is the best book i have ever read.
    it is full of dark humour; i can't see how you could have missed it.

    Bob's right....Catch-22 is in my top 10 list of best books.

    I guess it takes a certain type of person with a certain type of sense of humour to get this book....twisted maybe. Or warped....R.C. -- maybe you're just too normal for this book?

    And, no offense JSH, but I can count on one hand the number of movies that were as good as, if not better than the book. The book is almost always better -- maybe because it forces you to use your imagination whereas a movie puts everything up there on the big screen, just waiting for the moviegoing public to lick it up.

    Hey Slack! Glad you're back! {smooch}

    I dunno -- I do get satire, Pet. But I cd never get into "Cath-22". Guess I'll save that one so I'll have something I know I can find at any prison library/just in case...

By Pet on Monday, May 18, 1998 - 06:15 am:
    LOL @ R.C.

    Didn't know that was a staple @ prison libraries....

    I thought they stuck with titles like 'Handgun Repair' and 'The Anarchists Cookbook'.

    'Dem prisoners have it too damn easy....

    Catch 22 is an excellent piece of literature, and offers tremendous insights on the paradox of modern life and of war. It is not important that you like the humor or the style, but respect the ideas the work represents.

    I have encountered this sight due to my utter failure in reading Catch 22, it was awful, the Cliff Notes did nothing for me, I'm left with the net to help me understand and write a paper!
