given to me by my housemate Stephen... so far i'm only through page 33, but i like it. a male backpacker in bangkok, a young french couple, a mute heroine addict, and a older Scottish man who commits suicide. at least it's different.

"Scars and tattoos. You need to know someone fairly well before asking questions."

has anyone else read this book?

No, but I've read a mini interview with Alex Garland about it. He says he did not consciously leave the women without tampons. Just so you know.

That's a relief. I was worried. Tampax was there at Woodstock, you know.....at least that's what the ad says. Makes me feel sooooo much more at ease, thinking of all those naked hippies in the mud, ummmm....so how 'bout them red sox, huh?

Am I the only girl here who's eagerly awaiting menopause? I fricking HATE having a period!

No hon,I,m a lot closer to it than you and I hate being on the rag.

The question is, who likes it?

I never understood all those Judy Blume books where the girls were DYING to get their periods. What the hell were they thinking??

You know what sucks? I can't have children and yet I still have to have a period. All that discomfort for nothing!

By J on Friday, September 24, 1999 - 12:37 pm:

Oh hon that is cruel, don,t it make you wish you owned stock in tampons?

heh. I was gonna bring up Judy Blume. Darn! Even before I ever got my period I'd read those books and think they were full of crap.

Didn't Judy Blume write "Blubber"? I thought that book was so freaking depressing. The fat girl didn't even get to end up happy. What kind of YA novel was that?!?
