Caleb Carr. Interesting book and a page turner too. I bought his sequel to The Alienist but didn't want to read it first, so I special ordered The Alienist from Borders. Now I can read the sequel.

Still haven't read The Angel of Darkness yet (that's the name of the sequel)....

I'm letting the first one seep in before I attempt the second....

Right now I'm reading Perfume by Patrick Susskind (with the umlauts over the U but who knows how to make the umlaut symbol? Not me....) This book was recommended somewhere in Sorabji, but I can't remember where.....thought since I've had the hardback version for about ten years, it was about time to crack the book open....and that's a good one too, let me tell ya....

I started reading "The Alienist" last month/but I got a whole box of books in the mail for my birthday/so I delved into those & had to take the Carr back to the library. I never really got into it. I was vaguely aware of what it was abt before picking it up/but for some reason I thought it was set in the present-day or the near-future. The fact that it all takes place in turn-of-the- century NY was a bit off-putting. I'm not a big fan of historical fiction.

I was interested in reading it becuz Carr sold the film rights some time ago & there was some buzz abt it over the summer/altho' the project is supposedly languishing in development hell at present.

But since PetRock recommends it/I shall have another go at finishing the book after the holidaze.
