And today I listened to...

sorabji.com: What are you listening to?: And today I listened to...
By Ah the eclecticism on Monday, April 5, 1999 - 06:52 pm:

I started my morning with some nice Chet Baker. He sang "My Funny Valentine" and "Someone to Watch Over Me" as I dressed. Very soothing.

Then I listened to Bill Morrissey's "Night Train" as I did my schoolwork. I love him, and I love his book, _Edson_. Bill Morrissey led me to, of course, Morrissey (Stephen Patrick, that is), and so I put on "Maladjusted" as I straightened my room.

After class I was all riled up, so I put on Reelfoot's (possessing the lovely Mac MacNeilly, of course) "Push Me Again" and some Blues Explosion ("Orange").

Then, while I was writing a paper for my creative non-fiction class, I listened to the soundtrack from "The Thin Red Line" (needed to cry a little).

Five genres, and the day's not over yet.

I don't even know what I'm listening to. The lady in the Cyber Cafe I stopped into so I could check my email, make a few contributions to the consensual hallucination in which we all meet (reminds me of Yoko Ono's comment that the telephone was her favorite place to meet people. Talk about anticipation of technological development.), and avoid cleaning my house on this fine lazy Sunday.
It's like some sort of weird combination of acid jazz and Enigma.
Now she's playing some sort of easy listening stuff, Oh well.
Now she let me pick. So I went in. I put in a breakbeat CD, the AIDS-Relief compilation that had that other thing on it, and Ani Difranco's "Little Plastic Castle" and hit random.
(I'm a regular at this cafe and they consult me a lot on marketing stuff and other stuff like music & stuff)
Little rambling today. Enough of a hangover to make me mellow, not enough to hurt, and a really gorgeous day out has put me in quite a mood.
I feel pretty damn cheerful, actually.

I am listening to Quixote. I can get away with this as I am the only person in the office and the stereo belongs to me. The day here is grey and chilly. TOnight my band lays down tracks for our album. I need to go and borrow aguitar that will stay in tune for the sessions, mine ahs been acting up lately.

I bought a new walkman today.

I spent a decade with a pair of headphones surgically bonded to my ears and then broke off for a couple of years.

Today I went back to it.

Pixies at a billion decibels. Loud enough for people to stare. It was such a buzz. I can't believe I gave it up.

My ears are still ringing though.

Tomorrow feels like an Aphex Twin kind of day.

God, it's a "first shag in ages" mood.
