This is one of the few records of songs where there's nothing to skip over. There are some lyrics to "Been there" that I still haven't puzzled out. "She adored the downhearted" always kills me. There are lots of organ touches. And other odd little instruments, of course. Tons of rock references, some great rhythms but always too flowy to really hit it. That's allright. |

listened to some Fela Kuti earlier. Afro-Jazz. too bad the brotha died last year of aids complications. he should've been more careful and wrapped-up. after all, your ass is a terrible thing to waste. Native Tongues Crew: De La Soul/Jungle Brothers/Tribe Called Quest. Beg, borrow, buy or steal ALL their shit. it's worth the effort. Miles Davis and Quincy Jones Live at Montreux. Miles last show before shuffling off the mortal-coil... excellent rendition of "here come da honeyman" and "summertime", as well as tracks off "sketches of spain" and gil evans classics. John Coltrane live in Antigue. excellent "Afro-Blue" and "Favorite Things" the other day i was somewhere between depressed and generally pissed-off. listened to Nine Inch Nails "Downward Spiral". was disturbed and fascinated by how much i liked that shit. relating to trent reznor troubles me. but then again, shit. i wish i could make money by being consumed by my own emptiness... time to change the disc. |
