A Note For Jicotea & JSH & Sorabji

sorabji.com: What are you listening to?: A Note For Jicotea & JSH & Sorabji
THIS IS A READ-ONLY ARCHIVE FROM THE SORABJI.COM MESSAGE BOARDS (1995-2016).
By R.C. on Sunday, January 11, 1998 - 12:34 am:
I am listening to Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite ('96 - Columbia) in my cousin's room/using her AOL account to get online while I'm out of town & she's out at a party. I am thinking about this place & JSH & Jicotea & Mark how much I've learned here. But also thinking that maybe I need to take a break from Sorabji... Lately, there are too many assholes showing up here/leaving nasty remarks to Mark in the WAYD & on his pager/foul comments to everyone else on the BBS's... All that hostility & hatred -- over what? I get enough of that out in the real world -- who needs that crap online?

[And yeah -- I know they're cretins & it shdn't bother me. But it does.]

Jicotea - I got the tapes/will listen to them when I get back home. Be prepared for a barrage of e-mail questions! And thanks.

JSH - I'm still waiting for tapes of AVE & one of your solo concerts. (Jeez -- hanging out with all these accomplished musicians is gonna give me 'plexes!)

I hope that both of you will continue to write to me/until I feel up to coming back to the sandbox.

Mark - I am amazed at what can happen to a personal site when you open it up to the public to play with. In the hands of strangers/it can become something completely different from the thing you made with your own heart & hands. On the plane today/I was reading an old book I'd come across while searching for my winter coat. This quote made me think of you:

"To create today is to create dangerously. Any publication is an act, and that act exposes one to the passions of an age that forgives nothing... The question, for all those who cannot live without art and what it signifies, is merely to find out how, among the forces of so many ideologies (how many churches, what solitude!), the strange liberty of creation is possible."

    - Albert Camus
    "Resistance, Rebellion & Death"
    (Knopf - 1960)

don't go! i have to admit, i thought you were a little strange when you emailed me to correct some grammar on my page that i had phrased intentionally that way, but now i think you are pretty interesting, and i like reading what you have to say. just ignore the jerks, they usually only post once or twice, anyhow.

R.C.'s gone? Nooooo! Where's her e-mail address? Is it in here somewhere?

By Name changes must fill out form in triplicate and attach check yeah uh huh on Monday, January 12, 1998 - 01:28 am:
think RC should stick around, or at least visit. but she should get over thinking she's got to answer everything.

Sometimes if you wait, someone else does it better.

    and with fewer words.

and respect the aroma of enchanted weirdness when it wafts through.

By Kelsey on Tuesday, January 13, 1998 - 01:42 am:
    yup. respect it.

I have to hand it to Sorabji, though, for letting this place mutate into whatever path it follows, for better or for worse. If I ran the zoo, I'd probably be deleting posts right and left everytime anyone said anything stupid.......

I do wonder how long these forums can sit here without being pruned, though. Some of the long ones are now taking an eternity to load, especially for losers like myself whose computers aren't very fast.

Hopefully R.C. won't stay gone too long :(

By Jicotea on Tuesday, January 13, 1998 - 05:43 pm:
Cheer up, I'll bet she can't. On the other hand, she's got a lot of resolve, maybe she can.

Meanwhile, via priority snail I have sent you three commercial cassettes of Mozart's chamber music, two to the point of the piano quartets and one wild card. My amplifier says I can't copy anything to tape on the proper port, I mean outlet, so the best is yet to come when I get that resolved.

Now I have a bone to pick with Sorabji.
