He is one of the "elder statesmen" of kiwi rock, so most people here will never have heard of him. Anyway, he can still rock! And he is a great guitar player and singer. It was standing room only in there, and we couldn't really move once he came onstage, except to dance in one place. Fortunately we had a place at the front, to one side of the stage that wasn't too claustrophobic. The entire audience was right into the music, even those who looked too young to know who Dave Dobbyn is! Best songs - "Whaling", "Slice of Heaven". Gripes - late start - tickets said 8:30, support act wasn't on stage till 9, Dave finally showed up about 10. Also, they should make all venues smokefree (actually all NZ bars and restaurants may be smokefree before too long). I queued vietnamese style* for drinks at the bar and pissed off the woman next to me cos she'd been waiting for ages and I got served straight away. <g> * Ignore any line that might have formed and push your way to the front. |
Somebody nicked my Bliss CD so I couldn't add it to any of the kiwi mix tapes/cd's I've been making. What do you think of that new song of his? I hate to say it but his old stuff is way better. |
