nate's confession that he's sexually attracted to rod stewart made me think of something.

i seem to remember that it came to light that rod had stolen "do ya think i'm sexy?" from some brazilian singer. you know, "without realizing it". he had to pay the guy royalties

then i thought of other stuff.

little richard sued creedence clearwater revival because of their song "travelin' band". he won and got royalties.

whoever owns the rights that old chiffons song "he's so fine [do-lang do-lang do-lang]" sued george harrison because of his song "my sweet lord [hairy fishnuts...hairy ram-uh]" and also won.

i think willie dixon sued led zeppelin because of "whole lotta love". the original was called "you need love" and was done by muddy waters. i don't know how that turned out.

chuck berry sued the beatles for "come together". lennon quotes a line from "maybellene" in the song. berry didn't win that case.

can anybody think of any others?

    Queen vs. Vannila Ice.

queen won something like 3 million$.

    that was hilarious.

Vanilla Ice: "no, no. Under Pressure goes bum bum bum BUMbumbum BUM. My song goes bum BUM bum BUM bumbum BUM. They're totally different"

didn't some record company sue john fogarty because his (solo) song "old man down the road" sounded too much like another song he wrote (with ccr), "green river"?

I worked for this really radical radio station at one stage - they were the first to say "fuck" on air and get away with it - anyway when they started 25 years ago, their very first song was "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". It was really wild then and they were the first Australian radio station prepared to play it.

Makes you kind of think about all the music censorship crap that goes down now, doesn't it? Or maybe it makes you think about melting marshmellows, who knows?

i can remember when vanilla ice was on "saturday night live" all those years ago. it was when that guy who does monday night football was in the cast. he was doing "weekend update," and it opens with queen's "under pressure." when the song ends, he says, "that's such a great song, it could be a hit all over again."

"run through the jungle," not "green river."

    "fogerty," not "fogarty."

didnt Nirvana get sued by Killing Joke because "come as you are" ripped off "eighties"?

By cyst on Thursday, May 24, 2001 - 05:59 pm:

    yeah. didn't they settle?

they also got sued for stealing their name from some '60s band.

I remember when Vanilla Ice destroyed an MTV set last week.

    Now that was great.
