i finally got my "glenn gould - the radio artist" in the mail. it's a set of five different radio programs (on 5 CDs) that gould had done for the canadian broadcasting company. i remembered seeing this in the movie "thirty-two short films about glenn gould" back in '93, and have wanted copies of it ever since. the back cover describes them as "'oral tone poems' [that] examine the lives of people in isolation." in the movie, gould blends the voices of the interviewees together like music; as he listens to them, he conducts them with his hand. i feel like i shouldn't just slap one in and listen to it. i'll set aside one day a week to listen to each one (each show is at least an hour).
