A good movie for anyone who has wrestled w/what it means to grow up as part of a very specific community that you've never felt you belonged to. Boaz Yakin captures Hasidic Jewish life in a realistic, unsentimental fashion. (Altho' the affair btwn Zellweger's character & her brother-in-law made no sense from minute one. It seemed like nothing but a plot device to me.)

It portrays how pious people who devote themselves to God can make life very unhappy for the people who live w/them. Plus it features the very yummy Allen Payne/who doesn't work as much as he shd. Which was nice -- you never see Orthodox Jews realting to anyone outside of their own culture in the movies.

I liked this one a lot. I think I'll watch it again over the wknd.
