I rented Stanley Kubrick's Lolita last night. Man, the more Peter Sellars films I watch the more he blows me away as an actor. Anyone seen this version of Lolita?

By Droopy on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 - 06:35 pm:

I have. I have a few having-read-the-book-first reservations about the movie, but I'm with you on the Sellars thing. (I do think the movie still has that Kubrick brilliance in it. Read the article about him in the new Vanity Fair?). Sellars was superb in Dr. Strangelove, too. And Being There was always a favorite of mine.

By Waffles on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 - 06:45 pm:

Those are two of my favs. Being There was great as was Dr. Strangelove. I also got plenty of shits & giggles from Casino Royale. I still haven't seen the lot of the Pink Panther series. They are next on my list.

    Haven't seen the Vanity Fair.

    "I like to watch"

By Droop on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 - 07:25 pm:

I forgot about Casino Royale. I remember seeing an English film with Peter Sellars in it, but I can't quite remember the name. He was a recluse who lived in a rundown building by the shores of the Thames (I think) and he is befriended by two kids. I think it was called "The Optimists". I suppose it was a little on the sentimental side, but I liked it.

I saw Being There when it came out with my father. I think I was twelve, so it was '79. I loved it, but my father, who I guess thought it would be like a Panther film, just stared blankly at it. His opinion was: very dry sense of humor.

By Drooly on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 - 10:50 pm:

By FETIDBEAVER on Friday, July 16, 1999 - 12:00 am:

DLB, no e mail needed. She said to me tonight "So what are we going to do this weekend for our anniversary" I'm sitting there thinking no matter what I say it won't be romantic enough. Then I think, oh shit here it comes something like "let's go out of town and buy me the hope diamond to celebrate". Instead she says. "I'd like to go out to dinner then come home and have nasty sex all weekend". I can't argue with that idea.

By Silly on Friday, July 16, 1999 - 10:48 am:

And for that alone, you should get her something nice.

By DLB on Saturday, July 17, 1999 - 08:20 pm:

Fetidbeaver. Shit we will never get that smile off your face now. And your wife will never be the same....probably wont be able to walk Sunday night... Hahahahahaha. Is that an excused absence????????

By FETIDBEAVER on Sunday, July 18, 1999 - 07:56 am:

She's resting now. The doctors said this is the crucial period. Yes vile acts of sexual perversion were committed. The EPA has declared the sheets as toxic waste and removed them for incineration. The dog refused to go for a walk, she's to ashamed to be seen in public with me now.
