What a brilliant last film from one of my favorite filmakers!!!! Have you seen this? Aside from the subject matter being personally relative to my life...... the acting was outta sight....i think i can now give Mr. Cruise a new sense of repsect....I think he played a conflicted man beautifully..... this movie was a peak in Kubrick's eccenticism...the settign the lights...HOLY SHIT....did you see the party scene in the beginning????? My god, the lights the sets were outta sight.....the camera work stunning, he used camera techniques all to simple yet often ignored by most filmakers.....handheld shots, with camera movement....the effect on the viewer is subtle but reiterates emotion ...the dialog.....Nicole Kidman.....my god...can she get any more beautiful...could she speak any more slower.....could she taunt the viewer.....she nearly made me cry she was so troubling....the secret party he goes to , the soundtrack everything about this film screamed classic Kubrick......it kept me captive in my seat for three hours..... side note of Kubrick greatness.....he was one of under 5 directors and writers in Hollywood in which the studio gave him an open door deal. He could do whatever, whenever, take 5 years to make a movie, his budget was fairly open, and the completely stayed out of his hair. they were so sure of his genius....in Hollywood THAT is rare....very few filmakers who do not run their own studios, such as Lucas , have that freedom..... |
I loved it. The Troll hated it, of course, but...whatever. I thought it was a great film. Ilove all of Kubrick's work, but this was just...incredible. |
