Sure, Spielberg helped to make a great film, but he hardly deserves all the credit. Phil K. Dick was hardly mentioned in anything related to the movie...and it wouldn't have happened without him so blah, forget the "oh speiberg is the god of the movies" because it's not entirely his. [end rant] I had just seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the week before, and I think that it's my new favourite movie. Simply amazing. Hunter S. Thompson is my hero now. Sure, it came out like 4 years ago, but it's great finally "discovering" it. Johnny Depp was an amazing cast for it. I had read the script (http://blake.prohosting.com/awsm/script/fearandloathing.html) before I saw the movie (thanks to http://www.script-o-rama.com/table.shtml) but i had no idea how much more could be put into the film. great great great. if you haven't seen it, go to your video store today and rent it! go! quick! |

however, the premise of "precrime" is actually a result of "corrupt science" (experimenting on humans, something which i'm really not so against, considering the fact that there is something like 5-6 billion of us, and certainly at least a fraction would be willing to submit to lab testing) and drug addiction. Specifically, the drug addicition-type situations which would and already do result from the whole "war on drugs" hullabaloo. The movie probably could have gone into much more detail regarding the drug culture, but again, it didn't go into all that much detail about a lot of things. it might be better that way. i just assumed at first that the short coverage of drugs was due to the fact that they wanted a pg13 (any more drug references/use would have probably pushed it to an R rating) In theory, precrime could be a great thing. but really, its not. murder is already a sort of "natural attrition" in nature. one could expect murder to skyrocket if the population also did, simply because nature is trying to keep us in balance. this relates in a sense to the whole management of deer herds in many places of the US-when the deer face no real natural threat (hunters, etc) then they become overpopulated, sick, and run out of food. the hippie folks are all like, oh nos dont kill the pretty deer! but in fact their method is hurting them more. if we dont have murder or war or whatever in our society, then we also run the risk of overpopulation and such. i probably have no idea what i'm talking about. and pardon the incoherence. |
