I, too, thought "Titanic" was a movie with a banal and clunky screenplay dressed up in the effects that lots of money can buy. I read a really funny essay on the movie in "The Chicago Tribune" in February. It's called "Over Bored" by someone called Gina Barreca. She laments not having spent her money on Milano cookies or Kitty Litter instead of on the movie. Anyway, a copy's posted at:

If you didn't like the movie, you'll probably like the essay. If you liked the movie, you might as well skip the essay. It will only make you mad.
