okay, so not the BEST movies ever, but i claim
this thread for the honour of movies that were
TOTALLY different than what you expected.
    I'll go first

    Little Nicky
Not a big Adam Sandler fan, and in fact we
rented this because we thought it would be
one of those horribly painful 'so bad it's great'
movies. Instead we spent the rest of the week
trying to find it for sale. I don't know what to say
about it really, it was fun and all the characters
were great. And Heaven was a riot. It was
really good, and not at all painfull.

    Bubble Boy
Again, rented because the trailer made it look
like absolute shit, and few reviews were kind.
But hot damn, this movie is good. I was
shocked. It was sweet and innocent, and
HILARIOUS. And fresh too, really different in
some places. The closest thing i could
compare it to is the Pee-Wee movies, but
slightly more mature and with a likeable
    (non-constantly screaming) main character.
Insanely likeable, in fact. I'm reading the most
un-fair reviews for it, and I feel the need to
defend this movie at every turn.
The bubble suit is not the joke. It's the people
he meets on the way that are the plot.
    It's not gross-out comedy. It's not fuckin'
Tomcats. It's not terribly offensive, and Fabio
plays the leader of a 1970's musical children's
    show-esque cult...honestly, do you need
another reason to see this?! ITS FUCKING
    FUNNY AND INTELLEGENT.

my good friend J worked sound for Bubbleboy.J is usually boom operator, can you imagine mic-ing up that bubble garb? muchless trying to keep a boom up and over, out of the frame.

he did manage to get a hilarious picture taken with Beetlejuice while on set.

i can't think of any pleasant/unpleasantly surprising movies, but ill jot them down if i do.

Road trip was pleasantly surprising for me. I
expected it to be absolute crap, but it was
    actually pretty funny.
