By Dr. Spectrum on Tuesday, April 18, 2000 - 05:51 pm:

That's who I'm for for president. I'd like to come out against some of the b.s. I'm a libertarian and religion-wise am Unitarian. But am not against anybody who's comfortable with their religious beliefs. at least i'm taking a stand.

I would like to encourage anyone who is technically minded in electronics communication to consider getting a ham radio licence. YOu can find information at Radio Shack, or they would probably direct people to the right stores.
QST and CQ are some magazines at Barnes & Noble relating to ham radio.

    that's a perspective

    down my shortwave antenna
    now i'm very sad

By patrick on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 06:46 pm:

it will be a very scary day if that fucker is elected........and what about dick cheney? oh my fucking god, have you seen his record while he served in the various offices???

    -supported Ollie North
-voted against requiring gun manufacturers to have at least % of metal in guns....(as terrorist were creating plastic guns)
    -pro prayer in school

    jsut to name a few

    fuck me

By Zephyr on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 06:50 pm:

There isn't a good presidential choice this time around (was there ever?)

    Acutally, they all suck.

The ones that stand a chance of election are assholes.

And the ones that are even semi-decent won't last for a second.

    Ahhh....the joy of american politics.

Good thing I dont' vote yet.

Oh great. Now I forgot what I wanted to say.

By patrick on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 06:58 pm:

Nadar has my vote and I WILL vote

By Mavis on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 07:26 pm:

me too. i am even going to drive down to hopland to see him speak on the 27th at Real Goods.....

By Antigone on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 07:37 pm:

I was thinking of voting Nader, seeing as a vote for Gore would be just as much a throw away in Texas... But I might still vote for Gore. I'm an optimist... (read: blathering idiot)

By Isolde on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 09:09 pm:

I'm thhinking of driving over to Hopland too, actually. It should be interesting. I met the Green Party candidate for Senate in CA, Medea. She's very cool. Short, like me, which I like, but she has a laid back attitude, so it doesn't feel like I'm talking to a politician. Yes.

By Jay on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 08:52 am:

are there a lot of rabbitts in Hopland? maybe i'll go to.

By Nate on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 09:57 am:

    beer my friend. beer.

    nader is insane.

it doesn't matter who we elect. the president has no power in the US.

By Trace on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 09:59 am:

That is true, but I am tired of having a joke in the white house.

By patrick on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 12:39 pm:

an over zealous president swayed by twisted ideologies and the backroom bankers and generals can lead lead us to war....we got have somebody to hold accountable.

the only thing i am unsure about nadar is his ability to deal with an international crisis, moreover a military threat. Otherwise his domestic policies are ok with me.

By semillama on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 05:50 pm:

My dad saw Winona LaDuke talk at the Baraga Powwow, and she said that when they win, they'll have a celebratory powwow on the White House lawn.

What other reason do you need to vote Green this year?

Besides the fact that Cheney opposed sanctions against Apartheid, and letting Mandela out of jail, and the whole hypocrisy of the Republicans re: homosexuals...

By Nate on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 06:19 pm:

i could as much vote green as i could vote republican if i were gay.

nader is a socialist. socialism has proved to be flawed. it's like trying to keep a nice patch of mud in your yard. water it three times a day, and it will be nice and muddy for awhile. but you'll end up with a patch of weeds.

you can't assume the inherent good of the fellow man. nature is evil.

By semillama on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 07:16 pm:

So, democracy isn't flawed? Capitalism ain't all that pretty either.

By Nate on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 10:19 am:

Our poor are more prosperous than most people on earth.

We definitely aren't a democracy. And I won't argue that we aren't politically fucked.

But socialism is a bunch of sheep without a shepherd. And the wolves of the world wear shepherds' clothes, not sheeps'.

By Kalli on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 10:33 am:

i already dislike george w. but i found even more reason to dislike him. so, you know how he's all about saying no gays in the mil, and no same sex marriages, and blah blah blah....pretty much anti-homosexual. well it seems that mr. dick chaney's daughter is a dyke herself.

c'mon now. family values my ass.

By patrick on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 12:52 pm:

theres a whole lotta holes in their platform. mr. chenye's daughter being one of them. he has even invited her to campaign with him, but he wouldnt let her in the military or grant her the right to marry. The republicans are putting on a happy face, but its the same ole same ole. Look at mr. lott for example, the cocksucker was touting education reform when he, in the last 2 years, voted against money for new schools in his own state of MS, which has the lowest and worst school record in the country. the republicans want to use public money for charter schools and vouchers, which seem to only benefit suburbanites and the rich, instead of trying to fix what we already have.

"But socialism is a bunch of sheep without a shepherd. And the wolves of the world wear shepherds' clothes, not sheeps'."

    thats cute nate.

sounds like our system, only we knowningly have a cross dressing shepard/wolf.

By Nate on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 01:32 pm:

we don't have a stalin or a hitler.

socialism is a great idea, but it will never succeed so long as human nature is what it is.

speaking of the US dictatorship, though, i was thinking about these reality shows. "Big Brother", etc. where they poll the public to find out which person to ditch.

you know they could spin it so that the american people would vote for whoever the network wanted them to.

is this a test phase to help them fine tune the media machine?

let the execs pick the next president. the tv tells us what to think.

By Zephyr on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 02:41 pm:

    Rock on, Nate!

Everything is focused around the corporate/media culture.
    Everything.

By Zephyr on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 02:42 pm:

    Holy pacifier!

    I didn't know the Bush/Cheney clan was anti-gay! Assholes!

I will KILL my parents if they vote for them.

By semillama on Friday, August 4, 2000 - 07:04 pm:

Like the Execs haven't been picking presidents since, well, since Washington.

But the Republicans really give me the Screaming Fantods.

Although it was nice of them to allow all the minorities in their party to get up and give a speech at the convention.

By Celia on Saturday, August 5, 2000 - 04:22 am:

Well up here in Canada it's pretty much socialist. Especially here in BC....but yeah, we've got problems right now...but not anything so great we can't slap back in the face of those smug Albertans! Think you're so smart, with your two-tiered medical system, your low taxes and all...

By semillama on Saturday, August 5, 2000 - 03:54 pm:

What's really making me sick about this election, on a personal level, is that I really want to vote for Nader, but am leaning towards Gore simply because Bush/Cheney deeply horrifies me.

Even though I know he's likely fibbing, Gore's speechs don't make me quite as nervous as Bush's do.

I get the sceraming fantods even now -eyiyiyiyiyi

By Antigone on Saturday, August 5, 2000 - 07:44 pm:

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing, sem. I was considering voting for Nader myself. But Nader really is taking away votes from Gore, he doesn't care. In his eyes it's the Democrat's fault because they've moved to the right in the last few years. I think he's correct in that assesment, but that doesn't mean that all liberals should defect from the party. They have to be realistic, but you can't always expect that from the overly idealistic.

Hopefully, though, most of the people saying they'll vote for Nader will get scared enough and actually vote for Gore in the election, suprising the shit out of the Shrub, and fuck him up the ass bit time. I think that's the only thing that could wipe the smirk off his face...

By Trace on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 01:52 am:

OOOOOOOHHHH, Now I see what is wrong with you, your a democrat. That explains a lot.

By semillama on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 12:21 pm:

No, I said I voted Democrat, I never said I was a democrat.

I'm a SubGenius, thank you very much.

Which makes me more sympathetic to the Apostates such as Nader, and in a way, even Buchanan. At least he's honest. Evil, but open about it. I can appreciate the strength of his convictions without agreeing with them.

I, of course, am voting "bob" Dobbs for Supreme World Overlord, as I always do.

not that he needs to be voted in.

By Isolde on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 03:37 pm:

How true. Alas, lesser beings refuse to accept his position, so we must enforce it.

By Willy Nilly on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 05:54 pm:

    Hah!

I laugh at Canada being called socialist!

Look at some european socialist countries and spot the differences!

    FREE education
FREE health care (most health care in Canada is free, but not all, not everywhere)
    good public transportation...

of course, compared to the US, we look like communists, but that's a different story all together.

Canadians are so centre it's painful... but also good. We have a very high standard of living and enjoy good health and lots of freedom, so I'm not complaining, but really, it makes me laugh when people call us socialists.

It would make any real socialist laugh.

By Trace on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 11:36 pm:

Have you seen those comercials where they say what a bad idea free health care is because they said that Canada's free health care plan is bad that canadians are coming to america in the bus loads for our medical treatment...
    Whatever

By Willy Nilly on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 10:14 am:

    Hah!

Busloads of Canadians coming across the border for healthcare? Where?

While it's true that you sometimes have to wait a long time for elective and/or non-life-threatening surgery... from what I've noticed living in Brooklyn for nearly a year is that it's not that much different here if you're not incredibly wealthy. Even upper-middle class types don't get the "best" care available necessarily.

And if you want to look at a good system, then Canada's not the only place to look... Is the US full of people from Denmark and Norway and France too?

By Trace on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 10:23 am:

Just as many as anyone else, I would suppose

By Nate on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 10:39 am:

Gore is a scary bitch. I'm afraid of these enviro-whackos with their pseudo-science swaying the ignorant and the stupid.

By patrick on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 12:25 pm:

you think you Canadians enjoy freedom? Talk to me about getting gay nudie mags with references to bsdm in TEXT, no less, booted back. You have such uptight laws, there is actually an asshole that sits at the border and reads the ficiton in the magazines and if there is any reference to pain, peeing, some references to ass fucking and oral sex an issue can get held up. then i get this pansy little letter with a red leaf on it, im thinking what pipsqueek has been readin our porn now much less bitchin bout it.........you aint so free

By patrick on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 12:41 pm:

by the way, its important to vote for nadar if you believ in his ideals simply to have them get a the percentage so they can receive publics funds next time around. I voted for Perot before for this simple reason. I knew he wouldnt win , but now his reform party gets money, NOW all the two republicans in Congress who are in charge of the national debates would just let Buchannon in ....especially with Lieberman, we might see the anti-semite come out, ......eitherway, i think the next 4 years is just as scary with Gore or Bush, i see Gore as grossly imcompetant and Bush/Cheney as destructive and evil by choice. The two party system has you by the balls if you subscribe to the well. id better go ahead abd vote gore to keep bush out.......

By Trace on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 12:47 pm:

    Hmmmm

By patrick on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 01:26 pm:

in hindsight , that was the crappiest post.......

    let me try again.....

if you beleive in nadar, vote nadar.
4 years ago, the same logic ws applied to keep peeps from voting for the perot and the reform party. now they get $$ from congress as a legitimate party, (however there are two dopes part of the election committee that are keeping Buchanon out of the debates......they are republicans mind you) if nadar/green get enough votes, they could stand to receive congressional $$ next time around.

we are fucked either way for the next 4 years, might as well plant a seed for next time around.

By Trace on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 01:33 pm:

If there is anything left in four years

By Nate on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 01:52 pm:

the whole republican/democrat arguement is moot. there is practically no difference between the candidates. any differences are on unimportant issues.

    the real issues get ignored.

By patrick on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 01:56 pm:

i would tend to agree they both suck ass

By Antithesis on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 03:04 pm:

I'm so tired of politics. Let's go with the flow, and just elect a corporation president.

That's right. I'm casting my vote for Sorabji.com, Inc.

By Willy Nilly on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 04:22 pm:

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

You know, quite frankly, access to porn is really not of any interest to me. I know they stop stuff from coming into the country, but like I said, I don't really care - I think that most canadians have access to all the stuff they want. If a few people are not getting all the porn they need, well, there's the internet.

The government may seem to be more involved in the average canadian's business, but mostly only where it matters, like health care and all that.

There's an unspoken governmental interferance in the US. If you're poor, you don't have access to the same kind of stuff. I don't know whether you've been to Canada or not, but what is striking about the country is most people are middle class. In the US, the disparity is greater. Anyway - your average american pervert can't get his hands on porn either - because he can't afford it. Who is responsible for this?

What's more distressing is not being able to access necessities of life, but since you brought up porn, I thought I'd continue that theme.

I'm not saying this as a Canadian who doesn't know anything about the US. I live in the US now. I know that not all places in the US are like where I live, but as a general thing, I think what I have to say is valid. In general, life is more comfortable for the average person in Canada. We have a higher standard of living and we have a longer life span. Take it up with the UN if you don't believe me.

By Trace on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 04:35 pm:

Hey, the whole world is corrupt, and not a single form of goverment is what it appears to be. We are, wether we like it or not, heading for a one world government.

By Satan on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 04:39 pm:

ELECT ME PRESIDENT AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO WORRY ABOUT!

By Zephyr on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 05:14 pm:

    FUCK YOU!

I just sold my soul to the Nader Street Team.

    Go me.

By patrick on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 05:18 pm:

i don't necessarily deny what you say Mr willy, i could only offer what i knew, from my side of the field........

By semillama on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 08:28 am:

What was that figure I just saw on teh news, like 95% of the republicrats' campaign funds comes from 793 corporations? Interesting, no?

Meanwhile I think Nader doedn't accept contributions from either corporations or government officials...

By Nate on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 10:23 am:

Nader just believes that anything you make over 10x the minimum wage should be taxed 100%.

By Me...... on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 04:39 pm:

Would Gore have been allowed to select Clinton for his running mate ??? I would have LOVED that !!!..........

By semillama on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 07:21 pm:

"I'd really put meat in the process of progressive taxation. The richer people are, the more the percentage you pay. After all, it's their influence that rigged the system to get them that rich to begin with. And, second, we should tax things we don't like. We should tax stock market speculation. We should tax pollution. We should tax activities that we don't like, like sprawl, in order to get a better planning system and better zoning system.
And we should lighten the taxes on things we do like, like honest labor, like food. It's really interesting. In some places in this country, you go and you pay taxes on food and on books, but you don't pay taxes on what you buy on the Internet. Even though the small businesses in this country are the ones that support the charity and fiber of the community. It's really not fair."

    Ralph Nader

    (source: Jim Lehrer)

By Zephyr on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 07:26 pm:

    Ouch.

    That stings.

    Who's the libretarian party candidate?

By patrick on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 08:13 pm:

    nobody important

By Antithesis on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 04:26 am:

Trace, that's the most awful thing I've heard in days and days. In my book, we're heading towards a system with 6 billion+ governments in the world.

Speaking of which, there are lots of good people (still 300+), some of whom are even good anarchists, being held prisoner for taking part in the protests surrounding the Republican National Convention. Everyone with a conscience or an urge to fight the dictatorship should call, write, email, and otherwise harrass everyone in the Pennsylvania / Philedelphia "justice" system until we get them out.

Look out for the exact same thing in L.A. at the Democratic Convention... I find it really funny that the major party conventions just HAPPEN to be in cities with the cruelest, shittiest police forces.

    </rant>

By Nate on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 10:37 am:

Harry Browne is the libertarian candidate. he has good ideas but no chance in hell. he has some bad ideas too.

but certainly his focus is keeping the government constitutional.

gore, bush and nader could give a fuck.

and Browne will certainly not lead us by the nose to socalist slaughter.

By Trace on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 10:40 am:

My greatest fear is that this time we are in seriouis trouble.

By semillama on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 12:48 pm:

Don't libertarians follwo the "laissez-faire" credo?

Do you really want unregulated corporations running amok across the landscape?

I actually don't think we're going to be that bad off if Bush wins. We survived the last 20 years of the Reagan regime, didn't we?

By Nate on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 12:58 pm:

damn sem, you sound like a mooreite.

By Skooter on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 01:44 pm:

Okay, okay...Now what do people think about Libermann? It seems like all I hear is the fact that he is Jewish....What are his policys? Mark my words friends...If Bush JR get's in the White House we will have a full scale all out war with some third world country in less than two years, he has to outpresident his daddy after all. Plus, with Cheney as his VP ahhhh!
Now, will voting Nader really make any difference? I don't know.
Will the wackos and kooks (including neo-nazis and KKK) start coming out in force now that we are just steps away from our first jewish VP?
Remember that Kennedy was a Catholic and that was quite a shit stirrer?
It's sad but we still live in a country populated by racist ignorant morons. Any thoughts towards the future?

By agatha on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 02:42 pm:

he's a nice man. my dad is friends with him. that's all i know.

By Zephyr on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 03:40 pm:

Um. I don't want lieberman. at all. I could care less if he was jewish or not...I didn't like him before I knew.

He's a huge censor...I really dislike that. All into the anti-movie and game violence and the anti-"bad" lyrics...prolly going to start censoring books next...asshole.

By patrick on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 04:15 pm:

i know lieberman balmes the media for a lot of our cultural problems...

By semillama on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 06:21 pm:

His voting record, if I recall, ain't too liberal either.

but really, now did anyone really expect Gore to pick anything but a centrist? Lieberman does not thrill me, and I don't care if he's Jewish or Rastafarian, his addition to the Democratic ticket doesn't make me want to vote democrat. Still a better alternative than Bush/Cheney, but only by a few degrees to the left.

By Isolde on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 08:00 pm:

and if I have my way, I will be one the 300 arrested in LA! (Anti, you in?)

By patrick on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 08:15 pm:

isolde, are you coming ????? I will be here now that I am not going to NYC

By Isolde on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 08:18 pm:

I'm trying. I haven't decided if I can get the time off work and a ride down there. Bringing a car down would be madness, so I'm kind of drifting in indecision. But I'd like to go. It looks like too much fun for these people to be having without me. I'll try to drag anti down too.

By Anti-government-thesis on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 07:14 am:

Yeah, I suppose I couldn't live with myself if I didn't go; getting there is the hard part, as is dealing with the boss people. but it will all get worked out: it always does.

    smash the state!

By Nate on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 10:35 am:

there are bad factions gathering in LA for this one. it won't be protests, it will be mayhem.

i expect public demonstration will be the next to be regulated out of our freedoms.

By Margret on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 10:41 am:

Yeah, which one of our responsibilities did we blow off to enable that to happen?

By Trace on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 10:58 am:

    The responsibility of assembling peacefully

By patrick on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 12:08 pm:

isolde, send me an email if you come, i can offer you shelter if need be......im within reasonable walking distance to downtown and/or subway assuming it is still operative. i doubt i can get awy from work, but maybe in the evening time.

I have many gripes about many things....im not really sure what my protest would be concentrated on so.......I don't really have a cause, other than to go take pictures........i believe your right nate, as ther has been much to do here locally about when and where the protesters will gather, much to be infringed on assembly rights, several judges have had to overule the mayor and the police departments wishes......

By Nate on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 12:43 pm:

i've heard your "Take away the guns" arguments, patrick. you don't really have any room to mourn the death of the freedom of assembly.

it will all fall down. the rich will hold the power. the poor will get poorer. america will descend into an orgy of romanesque self destruction.

which is why i am a libertarian. and a capitalist.

    when in rome...

By patrick on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 12:47 pm:

guns can kill in the hands of an idiot.... speech and peaceful assembly can't. you can't draw that line with me buddy.

By Trace on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 12:49 pm:

Read 1984. We think just because we got past that error that that book is no longer relevant. I say it is a very accurate depiction of the future that we, not may-but will, face

By Antithesis on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 02:50 pm:

Nate, you sound like a guy I read about once named Marx. The rich will continue to hold power... until enough people get pissed off about it to do something. That's why I'm encouraging everyone to show up at L.A.: to show them that we're aware of the way things work, and that we (being the non-rich) are coming to some sort of critical mass. As much as I hate to be a doomsayer, there really is a revolution in the works, kids.

arguing about speech and assembly: this is ridiculous. Do we have the right to stand where we want to stand, and say what we want to say? Absolutely. (well, insofar as "rights" are a collective myth, but the "collective" gives the "myth" some sort of reality?)

We HAVE to stand up and make noise to avoid being overlooked and overrun. I don't condone violence, but we're living in a police state already... and here are people saying it's going to get worse?

sorry. I'll get off my soapbox, now. What sort of bad factions are you worried about, Nate? The Black Bloc are the good guys... *Anti pauses to cuddle his little anarcho-friends* I haven't been to L.A. in years. This could be fun.

By Trace on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:01 pm:

I will be watching on CNN..........

By Trace on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:02 pm:

I will be watching on CNN..........or Cops

By Isolde on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:32 pm:

Then you'll see Anti and I being dragged off by our hair, I suppose...I'm working on it. I am very (?) close to getting a ride down, in which case I'll look you all up.
I'm all over peaceful assembly. I'll be one of the silly hippies, probably. I have huge objections to breaking shit. But I'm looking forward to this...a lot.

By Skooter on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:54 pm:

Okay...So here's something I've been thinking about, and maybe I'm evil, but so what. I almost wish that a revolution would take place, that society would disenagrate and shit would fall apart..."The center does not hold." Does it make me a sicko to have Mad Max fantasys because I am so disillusioned with the normal every day boringness of life? We've come full circle in more than 225 years from a poeple fighting a tyranically imperialist goverment to a republic then back to the imperial goverment again. Is another revolution on the way? I'm going to go hide from the ATF now, since I know they traced this post.

By Trace on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:59 pm:

We have come full circle, and something is on the horizon. What it is, I do not know.

By Antithesis on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 03:43 pm:

    *laugh* Deal.

I almost posted my 5-million page response to Patrick and Jill Stewart's column. Stewart doesn't seem to insightful to me, really. She seems like she's got some stereotypes and some halfthoughts. Like here typecasting of "anarchists." Sure, there are "anarchist" posers, but there are bad seeds in every group. The vast majority of the people I've met who claim to be anarchists are self-educated, respectful people, and we're all poor as dirt and deeply motivated, not thrillseeking rich brats, if that makes Ms. Stewart feel better.

Some people believe violence is an acceptable form of protest; but most of the people who say this don't mean that they're just going to go and break stuff; they're going to pick visible (usually corporate) targets, and they're going to fight back against police brutality. It's amazing how some people let themselves get beat on just because the beater is wearing a badge.

I'll grant her that the Direct Action Network isn't full of the smartest or most tactful people ever. But then again, is their demand that no chemical warfare be used really that outrageous? On the one hand: the protesters shouldn't get out of hand, shouldn't hurt anyone or break private property; on the other hand, neither should the police: this means both that the protesters should be respectful of the police, and vice versa. both sides need to realize that the other side is full of people, doing something that they believe in. The thing that makes me really angry is people hiding from responsibility behind party lines and "just doing my job."

Okay. I'm trying really hard not to explode in a flaming ball of Anti-matter.

    I really hate politics. *sigh*

    vive la guerre eternal.

By Isolde on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 06:39 pm:

Free Mark Thomas! Free the Sorabji 8!
The girls at work sounded nervous when I told them I was going to protest. They all kind of laughed about it, and when I said--"alright, I'm going, wish me luck," they all kind of tittered and made some joke about the LA prison system.
    *sigh*
Chemical warfare is really not a good thing.
Especially when I think that in LA, there's a probability that the protestors are going to peppersprayed at best, nervegassed at worst. That makes me sad. I realize that these are different than massive chemical strikes on some defenseless country, yet...there are parrallels. I'm tense. Excited. I can't wait to see what happens. We're going to try and upload pictures in the evening, so we'll have to give you all a link to see what we're up to.
    Bleh.
    viva la revolution.

Yea,pretty tacky Pez,I was glad to see those little arrows pointing up myself.

By droopy on Thursday, October 19, 2000 - 07:33 pm:

i always laugh nervously when pronouns like "we" and "us" are used.

a week or so ago i was at a website that had a link to sorabji.com. this place was described (more or less) as "mark a. thomas, a true poet, and his faithful followers."

that last part would be us.

    rejoice.

    [grin]

By Cat on Thursday, October 19, 2000 - 07:36 pm:

I reckon I was the "true poet" they were talking about. When it comes to rhyme, I got rhythm.

(Where was that website incidentally? I am sure Mr Thomas would like to know for his scrapbook)

By patrick on Thursday, October 19, 2000 - 07:59 pm:

i'll show you rhyme and rhythm baby!!!!!!

By droopy on Thursday, October 19, 2000 - 08:27 pm:

    yeah yeah

cat - it was edlundart.com. (links)

looking back at the site, the "true poet" was in parentheses and he meant mark thomas.

but i bet you're the other one.

By Z on Sunday, October 22, 2000 - 09:56 pm:

    i agree
i ought to come back here more often
what's happened while i was gone?

By Nate on Sunday, October 22, 2000 - 10:53 pm:

I re-did my bathroom today. replaced the toilet and vanity. went from 24" to 48" on the vanity. we actually have counter space now.

which doesn't matter much to me, but apparently when you need use a whole mess of girly shit every morning, it's nice to have a counter.

and the vanity has drawers... which is a nice place to put all the girly shit when you're done.

the toilet was easy. we built the vanity last night and screwed it to the wall today. that was easy enough. siliconed the vanity top to the vanity. added the new faucet. all easy enough.

but then, the outlet. the waste water, the trap deal.

    leaky.

just like the kitchen. took me forever to fix the kitchen sink outlet. taking apart each join and re-sealing.

but tonight i have no sealant. nothing to slather on the threads.

so my pretty faucet and pretty sink go unused until i can get some.

    fuckers.

    always something.

i inherited my father's plumbing curse.

By Isolde on Sunday, October 22, 2000 - 11:16 pm:

I remember spending four hours with two other people trying to figure out a friend's toilet. Here we are all smart people, and we just ripped this toilet apart trying to comprehend the fixings. It was very funny. I can't plumb worth a damn. I can unstop a toilet, I stop there.

By Z on Sunday, October 22, 2000 - 11:56 pm:

Plumbers make quite a lot of money.

    For the above reasons.

By Nate on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 12:45 am:

i just need some of that black goo crap. put it on the threads. tighten up the compression fittings.

    to hell with professionals!

By Z on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 01:51 am:

    heh.

    Zephyr,is you dad's name bobbyt?

By semillama on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 10:21 am:

I find it highly amusing the way I get mistaken for female by morons with high tempers and low I.Q.'s.

By pez on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 11:34 am:

people used to think i was a lesbian b/c i had short hair and didn't talk much.

i've seen that stuff! my dad was a steamfitter once and so we've never had a plumber come to the house, ever. "why pay to have it done if you can do it yourself" my dad says. 'course, this additude also applies to animals. don't call animal control, just wait for my dad to find his slingshot.

By patrick on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 02:40 pm:

    plumber's ass.

somehow im not surprised nate, you seem to have a fascination with plumbing, be it human or otherwise.

By Isolde on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 02:46 pm:

Plumbers ass is, I suppose, one of the side effects of plumbing. Is it a benefit or a badness?

By Kalliope on Monday, October 23, 2000 - 02:56 pm:

It depends what the ass looks like.

    I have a cute plumber.

Ok, that's a lie. I just wanted to say it. (Say it out-loud. It's fun. "I have a cute plumber")

    I have a cute plumber.
