By Wavy on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - 05:54 pm:

One of our sports guys needs to know how to say "five" for a story. I searched some of the translator sites, but they are biased against the cyrillic alphabet.

    Help me out, comrades.

do i punch one of the numbers for admissions/financial aid, or wait for the operator?

By Mavis on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - 07:24 pm:

    admissions

say you are calling to rsvp.

By Wavy on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - 07:32 pm:

    I'm about to call now...

By Wavy on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - 07:54 pm:

allrighty, after talking to you, I have a very distinct mental image.

you look like the girl who used to work at Electronics Botique in the mall. I never talked to her much - just the normal monetary transaction chit-chat - but for some reason I always felt drawn to her. There was something about her ...

    ah well.

as for your trip: it's probably more time-efficient to go the Missoula route on I-90. I believe it's about 13 hours from Portland to IF via 82/84.

Something that I couldn't mention over the phone: A friend of mine in the St. Paul is looking for a roommate (unless his good-looking friend Tatiana moves in) and I'm going to look in that area. So there's a slight chance of being semi-close as far as visiting range.

    Maybe maybe.

What do I sound like? 6 on 6.5?

By agatha on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - 09:06 pm:

did you get the answer? in english, it's pronounced "pyatz".

By cyst on Thursday, September 21, 2000 - 02:04 pm:

    I don't think so. it's just "pyat."

By cyst on Thursday, September 21, 2000 - 02:09 pm:

    adyeen
    dva
    tri
    chteeri
    pyat

By Wavy on Thursday, September 21, 2000 - 03:03 pm:

    It is pyat.

I emailed my loser friend in Fairbanks, who actually came through in a timely manner with the correct answer.

I also found a cool website of Russian slang. It's wonderfully vulgar.

By agatha on Thursday, September 21, 2000 - 03:40 pm:

my russian teacher taught us pyatz. maybe she was from a different part of russia.

By cyst on Thursday, September 21, 2000 - 05:10 pm:

I spent a year in kiev, where they speak a ukrainian-tinged russian, and they said "pyat."

my favorite russian word, stolen directly from french, is "kashmar" (nightmare).

got a big problem? bolshoi kashmar.
