sorabji.com: The Stalking Post: ismene
By cyst on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 - 10:01 pm:

hey, antigone, I just heard your sister on the radio. npr's marketplace.

I heard on the ad there'd be a story about kiev, and my friend tom recently told me that he talked to someone from marketplace about chernobyl. I thought maybe he'd be on.

but then instead I heard my friend katya's (in her bizarre russian-scottish accent) story about how she and her husband, euan, have been asked for a lot of bribes to open a pub in the place they bought downtown. they'd been talking about it, but I didn't know they were actually going to do it.

and then at the end antigone's sister announced her name. she was the reporter. how funny. antigone's sister interviewed my old coworkers in kiev.

I read a scene from jean anouilh's "antigone" in french 201 at the university of washington. my class partner volunteered to read the part of ismene because she was taking the class pass-fail so I should get to do the soliloquies.

I was 18 years old and she was a grad student. ancient, like 23 or 24. in the play she is supposed to stroke antigone's hair, and it totally freaked me out that she actually did it in class.

somehow I remembered my lines anyway.

She told me about the story running this morning,
but I wasn't able to catch it. It'll be on the
NPR website in a couple of days, though.

The chernobyl reporter might be a friend of my
sister's. She talked about someone who fits the
    bill over christmas.

    It's a small world, ain't it cyst?
