Serious problem with Internet Explorer

I usually don't post technical stuff here, but this worthy, methinks.

There's a bug in MS Internet Explorer which allows an attacker to do anything he wants to your machine if you go to his web page or open an e-mail he sent you. (You do NOT have to open any e-mail attachments for the attack to work.)

This attack affects most current versions of IE and may affect all previous versions.

There's a page on the attack and a patch at the Microsoft website.

You should download and install the patch immediately if you use windows...

I use IE 5.00 -- think I should get the patch?

By Hal on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 11:31 am:

I fucking hate IE with a passion. I either use Mozilla or Netscape... Fuck IE with a sliver ridden wooden pole.

By Antigone on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 11:55 am:

    Rhiannon - Couldn't hurt!
Hal - Good for you, d00d. But if you use windows, you use IE. It's embedded in the OS.

    Download the patch...

    GOOOOOOO Netscape

By dave. on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 12:53 pm:

i was using opera but, in spite of all of it's neatness, it lacks. netscape just crashes too much. id doesn't matter if this is microsoft's fault or netscape's. it still crashes too much. i've recently started using ie5.5 and it seems to work just fine. anyone try the google toolbar? opera had a pretty cool search toolbar that had google as it's default but now that ie has one and the yahoo toolbar, i'm using it. i've also got file sharing turned on for all of my fat32 and ntfs partitions. come 'n get it. leave me a note on my desktop.

By Hal on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 05:53 pm:

I know it is but I fucking hate it... If I'm forced to use windows I use the windows version of Mozilla, it works and its as close as I can get to the real thing...

Ever heard of a program for windows called Cygwin?
Its like Windows explorer except is an x-windows command prompt windown and it uses all linux commands.

By dave. on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 07:50 pm:

what's the linux command to stop crashing?

By Nate on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 08:37 pm:

    kill -9

By Antigone on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 10:13 pm:

    Not quite...

    kill -9 1

    That'll do it.
