BBC NEWS on C-Span

sorabji.com: The Stalking Post: BBC NEWS on C-Span

    What are you doing?

Trying to figure out which two days a week C-Span airs the BBC News.

On C-Span (which has to show congress when house of representatives is in session, they are obligated to, as boring as it might be) BBC News was shown at the same time two days in a row on C-Span last week and it sure was a mind opener.
They also showed a German news service that was delivered in English, English speaking news casters.

One of the cool things about the BBC News show is that over the weekend, their so-called anchor man was obviously of Middle-Eastern racial extraction himself. Another thing about it is that it's not trying to get ratings, they don't have to because there is no advertising. The content of the BBC news in non-inflammatory, not trying to beat on a war drum so they can get some rating inflating war going. And they don't brand it with a subtitle like "UK AT WAR" or "UK ON ALERT." They are very more calm and they have a tradition of independence from politics which makes their news report apolitical.

If you don't get BBC America. You could always buy a World Band (Shortwave) radio.

Although the BBC world service is no longer directed to the U.S. you can still catch their broadcasts to the other parts of the world.

i listen to bbc world service on public radio from 10 pm to 4 am every night. luckily, i'm an insomniac. they just stopped running it on shortwave because enough public radio stations were broadcasting it. there was something on npr a while back about how pissed off the shortwave jockeys were.

i miss all the music shows they used to have on. i can remember brewing coffee at midnight so i could listen to 'joe strummer's london calling'. i exchanged a few emails with the guy who used to do the jazz show.

I catch the BBC on shortwave. It's just not directed at the US anymore.
