in aggressive pursuit of power

you can't call into question your own judgement.

you can question the facts you have and the facts you do not. you can question the extent of your knowledge and abilities. certainly, understanding the risks associated with flaws, actual and potential, is part of the process. question everything over and over again.

but when you put it all together, when you arrive at a judgement, this is the limit. this is when the questioning stops, the focus develops, you execute.

resolve is power. as much as knowledge or skill is the will to assume control. keep it in your mind: the ultimate goal is control.

    i am staging a coup.

i've developed my own view of the direction of this organization over the last year. i can see clearly. i've made the right friends and taken the right risks. my successes have high visability, my mistakes do not. i have written a proposal and tomorrow i meet with the vp and the cto.

all hell is breaking loose. as we prepare to ship the current project, they cut one of the founders. a man well loved in the organizion. this isn't all at face value.

attrition in a software organization generally happens in spurts, at the completion of a project. letting this man go at this particular time can't be a coincidence. people are going to leave.

which is a great opportunity for those who stay. especially those with a plan.

    should i feel guilty?

    anything at any price.

you're a capitalist in every sense of the word.

feel good about it and buy me a beer.

    Amen.
You are doing what you have to do to give yourself the best position possible.
If the guy that was cut loose is any good, he will do fine somewhere else.
If you do not watch out for you, no one else will.
