so, tacked up all around the office are signs advertising: Engineering BBQ. Friday, July 12, noon. Everyone's invited. [picture of sponge bob square pants waving]. that's today, my friends. something that has been planned for a few weeks, maybe a month. what else is today? something who's rumor started circulating last friday. the ubiquitous cut. layoffs. irony. do i want to go to work? fucking hell no. i find myself particularlly sensitive to psychic haywire. walking into the office this morning will be like walking into a septic tank fog. heavy. tangible. distress. but i have some important things to do in the office this morning, so i'm going in. so i wonder, how will it go? will they inform the unlucky after the BBQ? everyone standing around looking grim, wondering if they're going to be back on monday? or will it be before the BBQ? everyone let go leaving the office with knowledge of a timeframe when a big chunk of the company will be gathered in the parking lot. primed for the driveby. i had a thought that they could do it during the BBQ. the CEO makes an announcement while everyone is standing in small, glum circles: "ok everyone! take a look at the bottom of your cup! if you find a gold star, we'll see you monday! everyone else, good luck!" i really don't want to go in today. |

Damn. A guy, escorted by 2 armed body gaurds walked around the building, leaving letters on some people's desks ORDERING them to walk, not drive, to the Union Station Meeting Room (they even gave specific path they were to take) at 11:00. At 10:00 am, I was handed a list of accounts that were to be disabled immediately. Oh, and pull the internet plug, please. Some of the people had not gotten thier letters yet. I could not even tell the help desk what was going on, as they were being flooded with a million calls about not being able to unlock their work stations, get email, etc. That went on until 11, when a large mass of people got out of their desks and started walking out the door down to Union Station. The remaining peole were told to "lock everything down and go home, NOW. We will stay closed until Monday." |

bastards. |
Fucking christ. |
"Enjoy your weekend, some of you won't be returning on Monday." I hope they're more tactful than the last hosptital I worked at. The old, debilitated security guard was a notarious gossip,so if you wanted to find out the latest dirt, you'd check with him. Two of the people who were being layed off, found out from him. He didn't know them by name,so he just blurted out their names. What a horrid shock! He was fired, and later reinstated. Good old Dudley. Hope you're not in line. |
how's that for guilt? |

Funny how just after this article appears (gist of it: Arabs Decry [rightfully so] the hypocracy of global war on terrorism when Isreal's terrorist acts against Palestine are ignored, then this happens. Especially after it has been comparitivly quiet for the last 3 weeks after Isreal's re-occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. My opinion? Isreal was staging these "Palestinian Attacks" to justify them exterminating or driving out all Palestinians from the meager land they are "allowed" to occupy. When Isreal invaded that land, I think Isreal stopped the staged terror attacks (I am sure Palestinians do launch some attacks, but not all of them) to demonstrate that their actions worked. When the Arab League said something about the imbalance, then the attacks started again.... I have been trying to keep my mouth shut about such thinks, but my hypocracy has boundries...... |
of course, none of this changes my opinion on the whole mideast conflict, which is that the US needs to stop the unilateral support of Israel when abuses of human rights are carried out, just as we should with any other country. I'm not saying that we should stop all support, but it would really help US if we didn't come off as Israel's puppet to the Arab world, don't you think? |

DAMN. |
its such a complicated issue. |
all is grey |

Hamas staged these attacks (on civilians as they have declared they will do... human rights violation to the n'th degree) to provoke an Israeli response as the the "big four" have their meetings in NYC about the middle east. Kofi Annan of the UN, Javier Solana of the EU, Igor whatshisface from Russia and Colin Powell. Im starting to think it is indeed time for Arafat to go because he can't (or refuses) to reign in groups like Hamas who aggrivate the situation. I can't ever think of a situation in which targeting civilians is ever justified. Hamas says it is. |
was sincere when I said it was nice speculation. Maybe there really is no solution to this one. |
We created Israel. It was our little project, and now its run terribly amuck. We're just sitting here, with crow all over our faces, wondering if there is a graceful way out. |
