Yep that's right. They were working hard on "Lil Abner" and had just finished painting the sets on Monday. Van (the set designer and one of the three people involved in financially supporting the theater group) was celebrating his birthday. They got a call at midnight. The whole amphitheater was on fire and by the time he got there it was completely burnt to the ground. 14 years worth of work gone in a cloud of smoke.

The police believe it was arson and are investigating. In the meantime, they have gathered wood from what little money they had left and are building a small platform on which to perform.

All of the bands instruments were in the amphitheater. All of the things, I don't even know how to describe, cuz you had to see it. Props, costumes, sets, furniture, sheet music they just paid for, instruments, EVERYTHING. Gone.

    Happy Birthday to Van.

what a waste, both of peoples time, effort and money, evryone involved must be devastated, I wish you and everyone involved in the performance every bit of luck with the performance, well done for persisting. its always good to see people persevering despite adverse conditions.

i hope they catch the awful people who did it.

I have been emailing the cast and they are very determined to continue and show whoever did this that they can't stop them, or bring them down. They are going to make this the best show ever.

I hope they catch the idiots who did this, too.

People have spent 14 years of their life working to give this to the community, building a little more every year. This was the only FREE theater in the entire Kansas City Metro area. It will be built again, and the show will definately go on.
