Canto XIX

sorabji.com: What is your definition of hell?: Canto XIX
By D. Alighieri on Tuesday, May 11, 1999 - 05:18 pm:

In Canto XIX of the Inferno, Dante describes the simoniacs as being stuck upside down into narrow holes, with their legs sticking up in the air, with their feet on fire. The pain and claustrophobia is so great that they are on the verge of going mad.

That is hell. On the verge of going mad for all eternity.
