I just finshed my exam. I'm a genius! |
what's teh studio system? |
streamlining movie production, during the 40s and 50s.....you had core writers, core actors, directors, producers, line producers and so on.....making movies in almost a factory like way. Actors in those days usually signed with one studio, and one studio only.....getting scripts was key, writing movies was a group effort for some studios, many studios also looked to major novelists as well for stories. creativity was often stifled in the name of efficiency and profit. the studio system ran some of the majors broke. Paramount, Warner, MGM, Universal....selling off land in metro LA is what saved some of them...or coming up with theme parks... |
|
you had studios, distributors and theaters all owned by the same company....you had forced distribution, studios saying "well you don't get Terminator 5 unless you carry Arnold's other hit Jingle All the Way" i forget the term for this, but bascially you had complete vertical integration, and of course many abused this, so they eventually broke em up in the 50s. |

polyester and oligopo its hailing here now, and there was snow this morning. Its freakin summer DAMMIT. stupid storm, then fine, now hail. |

it's not necessary that you understand it. just learn it and repeat it and everyone will widen their eyes in the face of your genius. also remember: vertical integration. I'm a Blue smartie. |
also, Hollywood may never have been Hollywood had it not been for Indian Summer in AZ. The film industry initially started out in Edison, NJ, with the inventions of Edison and his team of people. However Eastman/Kodak began to implement a monopoly over film and film sales, not to mention weather was a huge deterrent, so not only did people get their knee caps busted for buying film from France, they were looking for better suited place to make movies. Soundstages weren't as advanced, and out door shooting was almost necessary. So they travelled west to Phoenix, however the people came during indian summer, in august, when it downpoured, so someone along the way had heard about a place called Los Angeles, and the wonderful weather they have there, so they packed their bags and moved here.... hollywood became hollywood.... insert dorky know-it-all smile |
damn. some boys get all the breaks. |

There was frost everywhere. It was magical. PErfectly clear, and the frost picked up glints of moonlight and reflected back in little fragments and crunched under my feet. It was so amazing! |
I have a picture up at my desk of Mavis in a parka, waving with thick mittens, while a front end loader (a big one) removes snow from our driveway. The snow is almost up to the front window of the house we lived in, and the window was a good six and a half feet off the ground. The photo was taken in the winter of 1996. It will be one of the photos that will make it on my webpage in the future event of my acquiring a scanner. |
the sets, costumes and make are said to be over the top...... not sure about the story, but thats enough fore me to check it out. we get snow about an hour away....up to mt. wilson and mt baldy. after rain we got snow caps in the back groud. it's amazing what such a short drive can produce. |
The director also did "The Lion King," which is on Broadway right now... |
